Andrew Richardson-USA TODAY SportsThe debate rages on about how high former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel should be taken in the upcoming NFL Draft. Some say at the top, some say not at all. Former NFL quarterback and NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner simply says he’d take defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney before Manziel. Manziel apparently wowed a lot of analysts and scouts at his recent pro day (although, how tough is it to look good against a guy chasing you with a broom), but even with his impressive performance, Warner isn’t convinced that Manziel is the top man in the draft. “I want a guy that wants to win regardless of what he does, and I think Johnny’s that guy. The problem with Johnny is that there’s still a lot of questions, and some of it is because he’s only played two years in college. We don’t know what he’s going to be. To win in the National Football League, you have to win in the pocket. You have to know what you’re seeing. You have to be able to make those throws first, and I just don’t think we have the body of work to say he’s that guy.” And on Clowney: “I think Johnny Manziel is the guy that intrigues me the most, but I think (Jadeveon) Clowney is such a rare, physical specimen, a guy that you’re not going to see very often in this business, and because I have a few questions about the quarterback position, I’d probably go that direction.” It’s probably not the best idea to make any real judgement on a quarterback from a pro day anyway. Things are laid out and planned to make it all look nice and tidy, and Manziel’s “sideshow” (as described by Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer) only added to that aura. Taking Johnny Manziel with the top pick in the draft is a 'no-brainer,' according to Jerry Rice. (USATSI) With just over a month to go until the NFL Draft, no one really knows what the Houston Texans are going to do with the top overall pick.Houston might trade the pick. That's what owner Bob McNair hinted at in January and that's what wide receiver Andre Johnson thinks the team should do. On the other hand, the Texans could keep the pick and take a quarterback. After all, new Houston coach Bill O'Brien has made it clear that the team needs one of those. O'Brien is also open to the idea of taking South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with the first overall pick. The Texans may have a lot of choices on what to do with the pick, but only one of those choices is a 'no-brainer' and that's Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. At least that's the opinion of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice. Rice told the NFL Network this week that Manziel reminds him of Steve Young and that Houston should definitely draft the mobile quarterback. "He reminds me a little bit of Steve Young because Steve Young, when he first came in, he wanted to run the football," Rice said. "Now, with Johnny Manziel, if he can just relax, stay in the pocket, deliver the ball down the field with accuracy and get the ball in the hands of his playmakers, I think it's a no-brainer for the Houston Texans to take this guy."Rice isn't worried about Manziel's maturity-level or the circus that Johnny Football's life has seemingly turned into. "I really don't think that's a concern. He likes that spotlight," Rice said. "The guy showed me [at his Pro Day] that he can drop back, he can deliver the ball with accuracy and he likes that big stage. George Bush, Barbara Bush, they were there. I think he proved to everybody that 'look, I deserve to be that number one guy.'" The Texans have had the No. 1 overall pick twice in franchise history. In 2002, the team selected Fresno State quarterback David Carr, who lasted five seasons in Houston. In 2006, the Texans went with to opposite side of the ball and drafted North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams.
