Wherever you are on Winston, there's no reason to start him vs. the Falcons. In fact, there are a lot of reasons not to:

1) A meaningless Week 17 game against a bad Falcons team will not tell you anything new.

Wherever you are on Winston, good or bad, there's no performance this week that changes that assessment. Whether he lights it up or craps the bed, the assessment is no different. What do the Bucs gain by playing Winston Week 17?

2) Let the next coach/GM decide what to do

For obvious reasons this decision may have to come from ownership or at least Licht. But you have to give the next group a chance to make a decision on Winston in the offseason. The most Bucs thing would be to play him Week 17 and have him tear his ACL.

3) It's time to evaluate Griffin

The Bucs will have a new backup QB (at minimum) and its time to see what Griffin can do in game action. The backup QB can be an important spot and there's very real benefit to giving Griffin a good evaluation.

4) The injury guarantee

I've touched on it above, but its very important. An injured Winston takes $20 million of the Bucs cap next year. He's the highest paid Buc in 2019. Even if the Bucs are 100% sure he's starting Week 1 2019, why risk the injury?

-----------------

There are so many good reasons to sit Winston - doesn't matter whether you love or hate him. It's the smart thing to do which is probably why he'll play a half and get injured 6 minutes into the 2nd quarter.
