and trading back isn't an option, who would you take at 1.19?
It's kind of a rough spot because it seems like most of the other players that we seem to be targeting or the PR has done write-ups on that are projected to be available would be a reach based on mock drafts. But we've got to pick someone, so I'm going with David Njoku.
He's already supremely talented and athletic, and considering how young he is (he's only 20), he has so much more room to grow. The biggest drawback is that he's not yet the Y Tight End that we need in terms of blocking ability, but again, those are skills that can be taught over time. I also wouldn't be upset if we passed on him considering how deep this draft is at the position. Jeremy Sprinkle and Jake Butt are Y Tight Ends that will be available in the mid rounds.
I also wouldn't be upset about taking Obi Melifonwu or Budda Baker. Obi is a tall and athletic freak at safety with ability to play man on big receivers in the red zone and Budda is a true center fielder safety that allows the rest of the D to play closer to the line. Biggest question marks are Obi's instincts and Budda's size. But both address a huge area of need in different ways with very talented players.
