Replace Mauch with leverett, mauch needs a year of strength and development, it is not a coincident that our runblocking improved and screen game improved with feiler swapped. You don’t have to bench him but give him some snaps, i know it’s unconventional but I think belicheck did it a few times back in New England when Brady was there.
Rookies should always have to earn their jobs, draft status gets you hype, film gets you wins
Yesterday should have been the last straw for Mauch, but #48 overall pick is going to start over an undrafted free agent, even if he didn't earn it.
Yeah that's the nature of the NFL business. Most coaches would do what Bowles is doing currently, but the top tier ones aren't letting that fly.Yesterday should have been the last straw for Mauch, but #48 overall pick is going to start over an undrafted free agent, even if he didn't earn it.
OK but the idea was that Mauch would be learning on the job. He was a tackle from North Dakota State being asked to jump in and start in the NFL at a different position. Nobody could possibly expect that he was going to actually be good. So he's doing exactly what anyone should have expected him to do. So now you are going to bench him halfway through the season for doing exactly what they thought he would do? I agree he shouldn't have been thrown into the starting job right away. But that's what they did, so they have to stick with him now.Replace Mauch with leverett, mauch needs a year of strength and development, it is not a coincident that our runblocking improved and screen game improved with feiler swapped. They actually don’t. It may benefit Mauch to take a break after getting the starter reps early. Getting benched sure as hell helped Goedeke after he was given the starting job last season, only to be sent to the sidelines after seven games.
Yeah I agree. I think Mauch would actually benefit from the chance to regroup

This right here.
Mauch has gained valuable experience so far, but if he has hit a wall as a rookie which is normal. So rotating/benching may be the way.
@jc5100 mauch went against an elite d lineman in Jeffrey Simmons.
he hasn’t even been our worst olineman.
he’s steadily improved & based on his draft position he won’t get benched(luckily).
if anyone needs replacing it’s hainsey.
unfortunately the entire iOL has been subpar.
jensen & marpet are solely missed.

Agreed
Hainsey is an interesting one because one play you see him get completely mauled and then another you see him out leading a screen with a good downfield block. He's good at one thing, bad at another (arguably more important part of his job)
Hainsey has been disappointing but you cannot be serious if you think he's a bigger problem than Mauch. Problem with Mauch is that he's actually an athletic OT that they're forcing inside. With Goedeke's improvement (but still getting smoked around the edge) they should consider a swap in the off-season with Goedeke at RG and Mauch at RT. In the meantime put Leverett back in there. He earned with how he played last year and Mauch is embarrassing.

The short armed TE that became a RT and then a G and then a RT and then a guard.
Goedeke is fine at RT and has to stick to a position to improve. Moving them around more would make it worse at this point. Mauch is further along than most rookie OL from small schools year 1 and position change. He needs an off season of weight training to improve.
Hainsey can do better and I think he should start to turn it on the second half of the season like what he showed last season.

Goedeke is still giving up kill shots off the edge because of deficiencies in athleticism. He's shorter, heavier, stronger and less athletic than Mauch. Goedeke is a guard, Mauch is a tackle.
