First of all,I think it's a huge mistake. I think they should pretty much be focused on OL,DL,CB,and RB (later). Here's my convoluted logic. Time after time,a lousy team will have a huge improvement with a high pick at HB (Bears with Payton,Lions with Sanders,Rams with Gurley). I think Licht and Koetter know this is their only hope to keep their jobs. Nelson is going to be an excellent pro,but will he really have 4-5 games worth of impact? Chubb is my favorite in this draft, but DE's are notorious slow starters in the NFL.It would be a chickensh**t move, but I could see us trading up to get Barkley because it's the only position that gives JL/DK any hope for next year. Also, they're not going to care about how badly Barkley gets beaten up behind a bad line. Anyone remember the pre-draft meeting Ray Perkins had with a scout regarding Keith McCants? The scout said:" Doctor says the knee will last 3 years in the league, maybe 4." Perkins said:"We're taking him, without some pass rush neither you or I will be here in 4 years."
