Doing a little digging in the aftermath of the news about Lovie Smith...My information tells me that Dirk Koetter has not already been locked in as the replacement for Lovie Smith. Apparently, according to someone who is not directly involved but is relatively close to Koetter, he has NOT, at least as of this time, been asked to take over as the new head coach of the team. This information comes from Koetter's camp, not from the Bucs end.It would seem that Jason Licht will be given full authority to do a search and fill the position as he sees fit. The last time the Bucs owners gave their GM full authority to pick a new coach was Rich McKay who, for all intents and purposes, hired Marvin Lewis. The Glazer sons actually pulled that authority and vetoed the Lewis hire, instead turning their sights on securing Jon Gruden via trade after their initial inquiry into acquiring him from the Raiders was rebuffed by Raiders owner Al Davis. We'll see how this pans out, folks. Koetter may end up getting the job, but apparently he has NOT been anointed the new head coach as yet.I wish I had more info to share, but as of now this is all that I have been able to dig up.
