I don't have a link, but I heard him on XM radio today say that when they were deciding between Payton Manning and Ryan Leaf, there were people on his staff that were very split - some pro Manning, some pro Leaf.He then said that the Pro Manning group just preferred him over Leaf and didn't necessarily dislike Leaf, just liked Manning better. Those that were Pro Leaf absolutely hated Manning for one reason or another and didn't want anything to do with Manning.I found it interesting because that seems to be the case b/w Mariota and Winston here. The Pro Mariota crowd seems (not completely, but for the most part) to absolutely hate Winston. Also, the Pro Winston crowd seems (again not totally, but that seems to be the consensus I've gathered) to be open to both, but would prefer Winston.I'm not making a direct comparison to Manning and Leaf with MM and JW, just comparing the general consensus here.At this stage of the game, are we all too "pot committed" emotionally and mentally to change our minds on these guys? Are we fairly evaluating these guys, or are we being clouded by our own emotions?FWIW, I see JW as a Josh Freeman - in a good way. I think he has a similar skill set physically to what we saw in Free in the first 2 or 3 years (I can't really explain what happened after that) but with more mental toughness and attitude and better field vision and accuracy. I think he will play a long time in this league and be very successful and would be happy to have him.I am also very impressed with MM8. I would be really fired up if we picked him. I see him much like others do in the Kapernick / Wilson mold. I also think he'll have a great career. My only draw back to him is that I have never seen him exhibit that gun slinger mentality and will his team to win in a tough situation.Oh, and I prefer Winston.Discuss or whatever it is we do here....
