A post by CBW not based on the subject but to grind an axe against someone he's still butt hurt about, consider us all shocked.

How can it ever die if everything is considered racist? Hmmm...it's almost as if an agenda is in place. Nah...couldn't be that.

Because some of the things considered racist are indeed racist. That's the truth. The only thing that's false is this sense that nothing is ever done with racial intent. It's reality.

Right, nobody is denying that racism exists. Unfortunately that argument is usually presented in a way that implies it's from only one race towards another race. If we want to REALLY solve the racism issue, not just talk about it but really solve something, we'll start openly acknowledging the full extent of the problem. Until then, it's all a bunch of meaningless fluff.

Oh no no. It's definitely not just from 1 from to others. It's a universal thing. But unfortunately in this politically correct world we live in the issue is swept under the rug. That's why things like the Rooney Rule exist. That's why you have civil rights organizations and affirmative action. It's societies way to put a band-aid on an issue that's terminal. Instead of addressing it and acknowledging the full extent of a problem these things are put in effect to cover up those issues. Speaking specifically to football, the Rooney Rule is basically "We don't really know or want to say why minorities are passed over for head coach/FO jobs, but you must interview at least 1 minority to comply."

The real problem is the media, they perpetuate this the most. This issue creates the biggest stir, it draws the most attention to what they're selling. The media in this country is mostly liberal, therefore they target one race above all others when it comes to racism. That race, of course, is the white race. Most blacks and hispanics are liberal, I don't know if by "most" it's 51% or 80%, but I feel comfortable saying most. Considering this, the liberal media treats citizens in this country the same way politicians do, they tell them what they believe they want to hear. They promote guys like Sharpton, someone who shouldn't be influencing anyone, ever. If our media ever gets back to objectively reporting the news, there's a chance things will change. Unfortunately far too many Americans allow what they hear through the MSM to influence their opinions. Until that stops nothing will change. Watch this interview, I agree with everything Elder says here. Note what he says towards the end of the video about how he feels the liberal media manipulates the public. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vK5UkZrPcc

Yes and no. It's become the more appropriate form of the NWORD.1) Sherman is not close to a thug. Dude's actually probably one of the smartest people in the NFL2) Thug has really become the "black" version of "white trash" since the nword is so offensive

Thug is not racist.  Period.  The problem is than any negative adjective, when applied negatively toward a black person will be see as racist because any negative comments directed that way by a white person are automatically judged through a presumption of racist intent, regardless of whether any intent is present.  That is why discrimination laws no longer have the requirement that harassment can be shown to have intent, all that matters now is whether it was perceived by the "victim".  Whether it is sexual, gender identity, or racial "discrimination" we no longer bother to truly determine mal intent, we simply assume it's presence.  And that is not a natural response, it is a trained one.

I think we should start calling black guys "white trash" , that way they can't claim racism.

Its not always but it can be. A brash, outspoken person like Sherman is referred to as a thug because of his outburst. People here seem to live in denial but you all are but a fraction of what the real reaction was. Social media had a field day with other racial slurs other than thug. Point blank period he was referred to as a thug because he was at that moment "the angry black man". Now let's take Riley Cooper. Cooper was filmed being rather aggressive and using a word seen as a racial slur. Was he referred to as a thug? I've already mentioned this but Tom Brady cursing at and running after refs because he didn't like their decision. Was he referred to as a thug? Ben Roethlisberger. Where to begin? How many called him a thug? It seems that if you're black and outspoken and sort of go against the grain you're a thug but people say it's only so because of the way you act. White people naively and rather defensively run to the conclusion that "look, their playing the race card again". That's not the case at all. It rather demeans the group of individuals in question because the reality is on a lot of levels there is racism there. Sad reality is they will always see if as playing the race card because most whites want to believe that racism doesn't exist because they themselves are not racist. Sweeping the issue under the rug is part of the reason we still have situations like this. Because race talk is such a sensitive subject in this country because of our history.

Bootz, you raise some good points.  I cannot recall the last time (if ever) I have heard a white public figure being referred to as a "thug" for similar behavior.  That being said, its hard for me to see words being used repeatedly by a demographic to describe themselves and others in that demographic, and then to be told that anyone who looks like me who uses those words transforms the word to now being a slur.  To me, the "n" word is a deplorable one no matter who uses it.  If we want to throw thug, ghetto, etc on the same pile...thats fine...everyone stop using it then.

For what it's worth, I heard the word thug used quite often in reference to Incognito.

This topic is just stupid. It's going nowhere and has nothing to do with football. I'd say let's just let it go, gentleman.

I can relate to Sherman's point.  People assume so much without zilch to back it up.  He talks some trash and he is automatically a thug. People don't like his choice of words and he is automatically a stupid thug. He has said, he tells people he is from Compton, and they automatically assume he grew up a gang banger.  People just jump to conclusions way too quickly without getting to know someone.  IMO.
