Or is Todd "Toilet" Bowles refusing to take accountability for the downfall of this squad?
He's the guy that schemes the porous defense and calls the plays on D, yet all I see are comments about the subpar play of the offense.
Granted, Kancey has been out on defense, but one must keep in mind the losses on the offensive side of the ball. Evans and McMillian missing significant time. losses on the O-line, and a QB gutting it out through nagging injuries himself.
I believe it boils down to the fact that, while many players seem to "like" Bowles, he is not a great leader of men. I'm not a Chiefs fan, but do live in Chiefs country, and one thing I can tell you about Andy Reid.....when KC plays well, he ALWAYS gives credit to his players and coaches....not himself. When they play poorly (2025) HE accepts ALL of the blame.....and that is how HC's gain respect from their players.
Buc players might LIKE Bowles, but I wonder if they truly respect him.
There's nothing a coach can say to help himself look better when the team loses 7 of 8. They can say everything perfectly or terribly. It doesn't matter a hill of beans. It's all going to come out as the wrong thing to say because there is no right thing to say.Or is Todd "Toilet" Bowles refusing to take accountability for the downfall of this squad?

Do the players respect him? Like him? Again - it matters not. These are his players. Handpicked. They aren't winning. It's on the coach. The new coach needs to sort out the issues with the players.
Bowles has failed upward for 4 season and it finally caught up.
It's really that simple

This actually a great way to put it.
Liam and his offense last year masked A LOT of Todd's shortcomings.
That was completely exposed this year with the combination of a bad OC and Bowles having a hand in the offense.

Say whatever you will about his abilities as a HC and the weakness of the scheme, but pretty sure that Bowles is sort of universally lauded and respected as a stand up guy. Hes also in the catbrid seat, if you just think about it. hes at or near retirement age anyway, he's got years left on a contract, he doesnt need to campaign for a new role. Heck, if you believe some (including Arians and Barber) he may not even get fired lol.
Most importantly though, Bowles is speaking to a truth you can see with your won eyes. That the problem with the defense is he's LOST THE PLAYERS or at least some of them, most notably Tykee Smith. Hes right to say that the breakdowns are PLAYER-DRIVEN. Thats not shirking responsibility
Jeremy Fowler continues to push the Bowles isnt going anywhere position and he's using Badabings argument
"On the Bucs, Todd Bowles’ buyout would be hefty after the team extended his contract through 2028, and the team doesn’t seem overly eager to pay that. Bailing on Bowles would be the Bucs’ way of embracing a rebuild. But someone will have to pay if they lose to Carolina. Staff changes are not off the table either way"
Nonsensical, Bowles is on a $5-6 million contract? The revenue share alone is $425 million lmao. Bowles contract is like a night of parking.

let's hope your right. otherwise, that premature extension in the summer looms retarded

well I may be wrong of course, but I am correct on the numbers and there is actual history (Gruden) to support my position. If Bowles survives it will not be because of penny-pinching
This from Fox news may be the though behind this thread?
""We’ve got to be better at the quarterback position, and we’ve got to be better at the signal-calling position, and we’ve got to be better blocking it," Bowles said after the Buccaneers' 20-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins earlier this week."
Bowles is correct though. Say what you will but they pulled Tykee Smith and played second half defense that held the Dolphins to 3 points. The offense was nowhere to be found.
If you're trying to analyze the Panthers game, #1 on your list might be to have the offense play a consistent game given the way the Dolphins game played out.
The Bills game was a shootout but there are a lot of offensive duds since the bye.

our defense has been last in the league since week 9 i believe. They are atrocious for a defensive minded coach.
i do agree that plenty of blame to go around. Offense has been ass.
the last 4 games were all winnable and at least in the 3 of them, critical Baker INTs all but ended the game. If he was just a bit better, we win those games.

Yes exactly thats why I drew the distinction to the Panthers game and referenced the Miami 2nd half. I think its a given that the defense has to play above its season performance
Ive had it as a loss for weeks, but obviously hope to be wrong.

yes agree with DH that that is a pretty good way to describe it.
An all too common failing of a "players coach" is a lack of motivation and discipline. Add in a complex scheme and everything is on a razor's edge to begin and any collapse is sure to be sudden once the players' coach loses the key players. Last season Bowles got some production (not much) out of DBs who were not even supposed to be on the field. They were "seizing an opportunity." This year, better DBs but the play goes DOWN, especially later in the year as key games slip away . . . all the way to the Dolphins game where a "star" DB fails TWICE to stop two TDs from nobody receiver and a nobody QB. They were "watching it all slip away" from the 5-1 start.
That is a team lost to the coach. Time for a change.
premature extension in the summer looms retarded
one of the reason for the extension, possibly, in SR's Fab 5
"That was the case back in 2023 when Todd Monken and Dan Pitcher, among others, turned down the Bucs offensive coordinator job because they thought Bowles was a dead man walking after an 8-9 record in his first season as head coach. Canales was hired despite not have any play-calling experience because he was the only one who said yes."

but again, this extension was done in summer of 2025 after coaching staff was only assembled. They would have done this extension in January 2025 after Coen bailed on us if this were the case.
Also, if Grizzard was the choice, which was made clear within 1 week of Coen's departure in January, they could have easily have done this extension January 2026 if they felt they needed an upgrade at coaching.
Coaches thought Bowles was a dead man walking because of Bucs performance in 2022. So had nothing to do with his contract but rather his own coaching performance in 2022.
you fast forward to now. Bowles has a contract through 2028 season but if they keep Bowles, does any coordinator believe that regime is safe past 2026 season? I dont think so.

I think someone mentioned the potential "we dont need you anyway" aspect of this. Its not hard to imagine -- if you put yourself in that timeframe - the Glazers giving both an extension when they did to help bolster the team ticket selling prospects (ie the team has a plan etc) and give them both the best chances going forward. Thats why I mentioned its pennies, relatively speaking.
That looks like a bad choice now, of course, but I am only offering an explanation for then. In fact, SR even touches on the potential firing in his Fab 5 with the Gruden firing we already discussed and this:
What I do know is that former Bucs general manager Mark Dominik told me the week before the 2013 season finale at New Orleans that both he and former head coach Greg Schiano were told they were safe. That despite a 0-8 start to Schiano’s second season that year, the Bucs then won four out of their next five games and were showing enough progress to avoid regime change – even though the Bucs dropped two more games in December to sink to 4-11.
But Tampa Bay got crushed by New Orleans, 42-17, in the season finale, and both Schiano and Dominik were fired the next day. Did the Glazers give Dominik a very false sense of security? Or were they truly safe until the unfortunate Week 17 outcome against the Saints changed the Glazers’ minds at the last minute?"
a lot of time (and losses) have passed since summer of 2025
