Teams are not game planning for Otton either.

Between Godwin, Egbuka, McMillan, Irving and T. Johnson those guy are more of a threat and will be receiving the lion share of touches.  Otton's pass catch increases the last two season are a result of injuries to the WR room 2 years in a row.  That is like expecting KG to catch 70+ catches in this offense when there is a guy named Irving in front of him and the rest of the WR group.

Otton is going to go back to catches 40+ catches and that is very likely.  And the crazy thing is he is good for 400-600 yards per season for a TE1 is very average which makes him mid. But like I have said before KG and Otton are just luxury additions to help out Mayfield as Licht is clearly all in with Mayfield.

lol like they are for Culp and  . .  . .  lol. Every defense the Bucs played considered Otton a two way threat. Doesn't mean he is great, but that versatility is his thing (especiaily compared to the other two):

" . . tight end Cade Otton put on a stellar performance with his multi-faceted skillset. He tied his career high in catches (nine) and finished with the second-most receiving yards in a game in his career (82). Otton, one of the most well-rounded tight ends in the game, can run an advanced route tree and plays with stout technique as a blocker in the run game and on pass sets. On Sunday, Otton spurred the offense for Tampa Bay whether on a quick hitch, sealing the edge for Sean Tucker or coming from the backside on a motion.

"Cade is a do it all," said Sterling Shepard via thePlayers’ Table Show. "He is going to put his hand in the dirt. He is doing those sift blocks all day and he does not complain about them…strains in the run game just like the offensive linemen and then he can go out there and run a spicy route. My man Cade does it with no gloves. We talk about that all the time"

but by luxury you meant they shouldnt waste their money on either because there were more pressing needs?

I would NOT be surprised if the Bucs have a fairly quiet FA period AGAIN. This is one reason the half in/half out thing with Bowles made no sense to me. Schefter reported that the Bucs went after Hendrickson BUT ONLY with a short term deal. he rejected it wanting a LTD with a contender.

The Bucs are not getting marquee player with a short-term deal and the Bowles situation is opposite of contender.

To be honest, the lack of splash Free Agent signings could be a lack of Free Agent interest in inking a deal with a lame duck coach.

I am not in disagreement that this half way in the door with a foot behavior is peculiar.  Short term deals will still land you players but the Bucs seems to just be content with what they have so far.

I mean many teams are signing guys on 1 year deals like Britt and Uche so it is not like they are high dollar players out there being signed.  The Bucs strategy seems to be focus on a few targeted guys and if they are off the board plan B is the draft or it seems that way.

Your player analysis matching the Red Board GM's player analysis should give you a little pause

Instead of pointing to stats that were obviously inflated by players being out for extended amounts of time, why don't you tell me who on that list is a better complete TE (not just stats) than Otton? I bet you'll struggle...

We all watched Otton last year. I don't know how he only had a 3.6% drop rate according to stats because there's just zero chance that's the case. We watched two drops turn into picks alone. I witnessed plenty of drops.

Otton is in the 19-25 range of TEs

Licht isn't acting like he is cooked.  He inked a backup RB and QB so far while adding Anzalone so it seems like it is business as usual like the last three off seasons.

Very surprising given how last season went and there is no sense of urgency to improve the roster (especially on defense).

And yet we have people suggesting we should have let him walk for a 6th round comp pick

With Dean and Evans signing it all adds to the formula.

Again, Licht may or may not be trying to get guys. Some guys want to go to a team that will not start the season with a head coach on a hot seat. Bowles is on the hot seat day one. That is not a 'great situation' to want to come join.

Being cooked requires you to think you aren't cooked.

I don't think that matters if the players ink 1 year deals.  They ball out they can still walk away if Bowles is canned.

The bigger picture is the Bucs priority has been finding a backup QB, backup RB re upping Otton which are all moves to help the offense.  The defense only has Anazalone as the lone pick up so far.
