When Licht first got here, the cupboard was REALLY bare. If you remember, most position groups were terrible and only a few of players were decent (McCoy, LVD, etc.) I remember, just recently there were so many holes, it was where to begin? Now it appears to me, that he is addressing them, a couple at a time, eg. the WR's were a mess, now they are OK/to Good, TE's were bare, now OK/ to Good. QB, the same, now Jameis and Fitz and we can all agree that the LB's are solid.
It appears to me that with the recent focus on the Dline, Licht's approach is to band aid his way with FA's, as he can't draft his way into fixing the problem. The Oline, with Jensen, could be a position group he could stabilize this year via the draft & Jensen or Nelson (Sweezy could be the back up with Smith).
He could close out the RB's this year also through the draft & a FA. Possibly the Safety positional group. Probably draft one CB this year, with a FA, then another CB next year and now, everything is somewhat stable, all position groups have depth, save the Dline.
Here's my point, with such a leaky boat, I feel Licht had to take a measured approach and not panic. Fix a couple of groups each year, so that they didn't 'LEAK' anymore. When all of the groups got fixed, he could get rid of McCoy and the big money, and draft high picks for a couple of years on the Dline and rotate out the older FA's.
It's just a hunch and feeling but it sure looks that way to me!!! Thoughts???
