This is going to be endlessly debated until April 30th, but right now, I think the Bucs are going to go with Mariota over Winston and it has nothing to do with on the field systems, who can throw the ball better or whom won more games. It all will come down to two things, character and whom Tony Dungy recommends.Honestly, just looking at tape, I'm impressed with both quarterbacks. But when you are going to make one the face of your franchise for at least the next 5 years, the winner is pretty clear. GM's don't want players that are bigger than the game itself. That's more the reason that Johnny Football sat last season than his body of work. Mariota has a great work ethic, donates time to the less fortunate, he can be a vocal leader when necessary and is a competitor. Finally, Dungy loves the kid and Lovie pays close attention to what Tony says. The Oregon scheme will be held against him, the fact that Winston hasn't lost a game will be held up as a reason he's superior to Marcus and the fact that he's not the typical pocket passer that seems successful in today's game will all be debated endlessly. But in the end, it's the character that will make the difference for Lovie and Licht. I know some will say that's short sighted or that Winston is actually a better fit for what Lovie wants to do and I honestly can't disagree with either of those points. I honestly feel Winston has a great chance to be a good to great quarterback, but in the end, it'll be the character concerns, the allegations, proven or not that will make the difference. Marcus is the safer pick. Marcus is at least likely to be solid and could be good to great. Jameis is just the risker prospect.Again, JMO.
