Michael Johnson has ’20 percent’ chance to return to Cincinnati BengalsBy Patrick Schmidt - Feb 10th, 2014 at 5:48 pm Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson played the 2013 season on the franchise tag when he pocketed more than $11 million dollars after a breakout 2012 season when he had 11.5 sacks. After a season in which he only had 3.5 sacks and fellow Bengals defensive linemen Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins received big paydays and the team spend a second round pick on end Margus Hunt, the chances of Johnson returning to the Queen City for 2014 are at “20 percent” according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “When Geno Atkins gets 5 years/$55 million, you can forget paying another player on the line the amount of cash Johnson will warrant long term. Somebody will throw a load of money (somewhere between Dunlap/Atkins) at Johnson and the Bengals likely can’t afford to match it. They could decide to re-franchise Johnson and take the big hit one more season. That’s about the only way he returns in my estimation.” Would the Bengals tag Johnson again and devote that much cap space to one player and have so much money tied up to one position group? Well, there’s an 80 percent chance that they won’t according to the Enquirer, but his teammates aren’t including him in offseason activities suggesting it’s more like 100 percent. http://fansided.com/2014/02/10/michael-johnson-20-percent-chance-return-cincinnati-bengals/?utm_source=FanSided&utm_medium=Network&utm_campaign=Trending%20on%20FS#!vcC3s
Minnesota, line one. Bet Zimmer snatches him up. Bucs should at least give him a call.
Of course they won't. He sucked ass all season .Thanks to the author , Captain Obvious
I'd take him in a second if he would take a deal that pays around $3M-$4M/year because I think he is better depth than Bowers or DTN or Gholston. He wasn't awful this year. He didn't get a lot of sacks but he had a lot of pressures, batted down 10 passes, caused 2 fumbles, had a bunch of TFL and even had an interception. He'd make a great #3DE....but giving him big money to be a starter would be stupid imo. He is a solid DE that averages 4 sacks a year and is pretty good versus the run. He is disruptive, but nobody should be fooled by his one year with 11 sacks though. That isn't his norm.
Not a fan. Not even out of college. He does have ridiculous arms on him. Go ahead DoubleJ, post the pics of him working out. You'll like. Not saying your Mike Sam or anything.
He's not Mike Sam because Sam is out of the closet ...

Huh?
He can get around the edge. Nobody currently on this team can do that. I think he would be a great fit here. Just rush the passer. I believe Cincinnati had him dropping into coverage quite frequently. Sign him.
We already have a guy just like him in William Gholston who is a bargain right now and an ascending player. If we are going to make a splash at DE in FA, go with a proven guy like Allen or Tuck

Agree, worth a look. Unless he is delusional and thinks he is worth Revis money.
I wonder if the contracts we handed out to VJax, Nicks, Wright, Revis, and Goldson....make every FA we contact assume we will grossly over pay them too.

I think the new GM has built in reason for this not to happen. Mr. Licht hopefully makes it known, quickly and clearly, that Tampa is under new management and now has a coach players genuinely love playing for.
Did Michael Johnson have some character concerns coming out of college or legal trouble or something? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.
