I just want to make sure I have this right...
Dean... arguably the best player on defense all year...
Was benched so that SMB could play boundary and Winfield would play slot?
Bowles is a fucking moron... between that and KJ Britt playing contain on a 4th down run that was clearly going to be a play fake.
My fucking God.
Jamel Dean was playing special teams guys! This is so fucking insane...
This is mind blowing. I thought maybe injured
Kept asking myself the same thing. Not that it mattered in the end but that move made absolutely no sense.
Before the game, I thought I saw a tweet stating he popped up on the injury list due to an illness.
But, he was out there on ST.
Although not flashy, Dean has arguably been our most consistent corner over the last 2 seasons. I’ve said all season they hurt multiple positions by moving Winfield from his pro bowl position at safety to the slot put a less talented player at safety. And I always feel better about our defense when Dean is on the field. A really bad decision.

agreed. Another reason you have to question Bowles (or Licht for not finding the talent to fill the slot)
Was at the game and wondering why Dean wasn’t playing. Then saw him on special teams and was furious. Bowles is a moron.
One local media contact gave m same answer toe/illness. I followed up with some seeing him on special teams. No response yet
contract year for him too?

He answered your question and confirmed “he played a lot on special teams”.
Bowles eluded to SMB not being a big drop off from Dean.
Just another example of the ineptitude of this coaching staff.
Dean is gone. The Bucs can't' afford to pay both he and Davis, in addition to paying Winfield next year. That's too much money for one defensive backfield. PR reports that PFF rates Dean as the top FA CB on the market, which means "Show me the money!" The Bucs won't want to devote the cap space to slap a $20 mil franchise tag onto Dean, because the entire franchise tag counts against this year's cap.
Per Auman
Asked for a most improved Bucs player for 2022 on his weekly radio show, Bowles points to Anthony Nelson and Jamel Dean. Both will be free agents in March.
Absolute poor draft management by Licht and Co.
Dean and SMB will likely be on new teams next year, and we have a Zyon McClloum who's years away from being worthy of playing defensive snaps. Keshawn Vaughn, Kyle Trask, and Goedeke don't have bright futures imo. The draft is a crapshoot of course but I think taking those first team names instead of 2 DB's would of it easier to afford to lose our #2CB and #3 CBs.
In my mind, we won the super bowl and then just got cocky.
From the draft, to coaching, to free agency... the brass thought to themselves that they could turn water into wine.
There's been so many bad moves the last 2 years after the super bowl win that it is truly mind-boggeling.
Bowles is a B+ coordinator with the Xs and Os and everything else he is an F.
Benching Dean for SMB is a function of us not having a slot corner with that quick twitch.
Would Dean have saved this game? No... the whole team was unprepared and uninspired.
It just shows to me that Bowles is in over his head unless he's just calling plays. Simple as that...
And Licht had a nice run of moves for 3 years... but outside of that he's regressed back to the GM that had one of the worst records ever.
He needs to hit in this draft or we are fucked.

Couldn't have said it any better. To think we could just come back healthy and run through the NFC again was just insane
It's just hubris. And the offense was never well designed. It was talented.
Byron was largely overrated... which is why most of us were praying he'd sign with Jax.
