Jason Licht laughs off quarterback competition question by Jose Martinez 1h ago Jason Licht’s poker face could use some work. Recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager held a town hall meeting and WDAE-AM 620 was there to record the entire event. During the event, host Steve Duemig asked Licht the question on the mind of every Buccaneers fan: Is Jameis Winston getting the keys to the car once training camp starts, or does Mike Glennon have a fighting chance of stealing away the starting job? Here’s a transcript of Licht’s response, courtesy of JoeBucsFan.com:Duemig: No competition at the quarterback position? Licht: (laughs) Well, uh, (laughs). I’m not very good at playing poker. (Beaming) You know, come out to training camp Saturday. Let’s see who’s lining up behind center. You know, give you guys some incentive to go out there. Now, that response can be taken in a couple different ways. Does Licht already feel like this is Winston’s job, but he needs to remain neutral? Is Glennon the man and he doesn’t want to tip his hand just days before training camp? In the months leading up to training camp, Licht hasn’t been shy about talking up the Buccaneers’ 2015 first overall pick, suggesting that they didn’t get him where they did to have him ride the bench. In his limited time wearing the pewter and red, Winston has been impressive and left little doubt (so far) that the Bucs made the right decision on April 30. As someone who is pro-Jameis but can also see it both ways, I hope that Glennon doesn’t get overlooked. Even though the third-year pro hasn’t blown anyone in his previous starts, it would be nice to see what he can do under offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter.Maybe he excels under the new system. But we won’t know until he gets the reps with the first-team offense.link
