Who compared him to Tebow as a football prospect?

Tebow made all kinds of crazy plays and just won games in college too...hell he even did it some in the NFL for the Broncos.Doesn't change the fact he flamed out and busted.Manziel is likely to do the same unless he makes major changes to his playing style. In the end , what's the difference ??

Chace, I get why some folks are scared of taking JFF and think he will fail. I get it. This time of year everyone is obsessed with measurables and technique and footwork ect, ect....but in the end, all that matters is can you win? You look at guys like Romo, Garcia, Favre, Wilson, Kaepernick, RG3, Roethlisberger, ect.....and they rarely just drop back with great footwork and ideal throwing motion. Not everyone is going to be Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. There is no ideal mold at any position. You can either make things happen or you can't. Johnny is not "normal". He is not the right size and he doesn't just drop back 3 steps and release....but neither do a lot of great QBs. He is unorthodox, but he is ridiculously talented and he finds a way to win doing things his way. We can debate until we are blue in the face whether his unique style will translate to the NFL, and we probably will for the next several months, as will everyone else....but the truth is nobody knows. Nobody has the slightest idea. Whether it's Gil Brant saying JFF is the clear cut #1 pick and will be amazing, or it's Cosell saying he sucks....it's all just a big **CENSORED**ing guess. If you end up being right then you get to say I told you so and proclaim yourself a genius and if you are wrong you try not to talk about it until everyone forgets. That's how it works for all these guys and fans alike. That said, I think there is way too much potential for JFF to be amazing for us to pass on him. If he busts...so **CENSORED**ing what? Half our 1st round picks don't work out anyways. If you don't have a QB, and you pass on QBs that have astronomical potential because they are risky....then you deserve to stay at the bottom of the league. If we have a chance to take Johnny at #7 and we pass...then we deserve to continue to be the butt of many jokes that can't sell out a home game and hasn't won a playoff game in 12 years.

Substitute JFF for the word Tebow, and I think we've read all of this before.

Its certainly not a strength.

I call bullsh!t. Show me a situation where he didn't have enough arm strength to make a throw. You won't find one.Dude is running around throwing from wierd positions most the time so he doesn't get to set his back foot. It's often times all upper body. Only way you can make those throws is arm strength. And when he does have time in the pocket to set his feet and throw deep....he does it very well. If you wanna question his size or ability to read defenses...go right ahead. Those are valid concerns. But when you start talking about things like lack of arm strength, you are reaching for faults that are not there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTaBAPD5x6A

Is there not an area between it being a "strength" and a "weakness"? Call bull sh*t all you want, I don't see great arm strength. Adequate? Sure, but not enough to classify it as a strength.

There is definitely a large grey area between rocket arm and Chad Pennington.....but a big part of Manziel's game is making crazy off balanced throws, often times across the body in the opposite direction he is running. You simply can't consistently make those throws without a big arm. If his arm wasn't a strength, I don't believe he could play the way he plays.

Thing is, he can get away with throwing those "crazy off balanced throws" in college. That is going to fly in the NFL. Even Greg Cosell this morning stated that he was amazed when looking at some of the throws he made and got away with because of the talent of his receivers, and that there were many throws that probably would have been picked at the next level. Seems like you are reaching for attributes to build this guy up. Just because he is able to get away with things in college, that doesnt automatically mean that it is a strength when looking at him as a pro prospect and how he translates to the NFL.

Come on chace..He's got swag bro!!

If I were rooting for the Bucs to have more national attention and increase merchandise/ticket sales for a few years, then I would say "bring on the swag"...but thats not what I root for. Swag is appealing to 17 year old boys. Give me a potentially professional young man who knows his responsibilities and the role he should play on the team, over the seemingly immature college partyboy who just goes out and wings it on Saturdays.

amen...  I especially loved the "swag is appealing for 17 year old boys" line.

The minute someone compares manziel to tebow, I have to question their knowledge, or if they even watched him play.Manziel can think much faster and has a much better throwing motion. The only comparison is his running ability, and that's crap too because it's different types of running. Manziel runs faster, and is much less of a bruiser. He also thinks on his feet and notices the holes he can go though without getting killed. The idea that they are the same type of player is ridiculous.

Please note, that folks like Chase and I, are not comparing the players.  I am assuming that most if not all people dedicated to football enough to be posting on a last place team's message board in February, know enough to recognize how different their games are.  We are pointing out arguments like JDoubles are exactly like those made for Tebow:He Just winsIgnore the footwork and mechanics, he gets results. He has so much potential. He will sell tickets. He will made it fun to watch. He has "swag".Oh yeah, and he wins.
