A team that has SB aspirations doesn't need a 36 year old JPP, it needs a better defensive line with much more YOUNG depth

I love JPP but I think he is here to provide coaching and not really steal playing time.

JPP is better than anything we have at this point which is unfortunate. I am sure he will give better snaps than braswell, Nelson, maybe equal to reddick or better.

Observation I realize white started loafing when JPP left.

I think when youre in a room with monsters like Vita, Suh, White, David sack leader Barrett and you can yell at them theres definitely a level of respect

I was actually thinking before the season.  I think we drafted JTS in 2021 so we would have depth for an injured JPP.

I think below you Alldaway suggest  JPP is probably more player/coach.motivator.  JBF reported similar coming from Foote

While I love the fire and passion JPP brought to the team his first go around, this wreaks of desperation...

Of course it's desperation. After watching the pass rush up to this point in the season, wouldn't you be desperate, too, if you were in charge?

I love Licht as the GM but he's not infallible...I'd like to think that if I was in charge that I would have exhausted all possibilities at the trade deadline ( not saying that Licht didn't...just that he didn't pull the trigger for whatever reason).  While I might have preferred not to give up a first or second round pick(unless it was someone still very young and that has been productive), I certainly would have been willing to give up some combination of picks 3-7 to get someone that can bring something to the table.  Desperate no...Willing to bring in every street FA rusher for a try out, and make a deal pre-deadline absolutely!

Stroud questioned Foote about the JPP signing in the most recent presser.

The answer just reeks of ineptitude and desperation.

Fucking clown show coaching staff top to bottom.

Doesn't it seem like there are diverging views here? Most here see the season as sort of an all-in Super Bowl season, but Licht has not really been operating that way. For example, in 2021 we brought everyone back AND used a premium pick to draft depth for the D-line. This offseason we basically cut Dean (gave him a monetary ultimatum), we tried out SVD and we did draft some depth for a D-line but not a premium pick.

So maybe OBP didnt see the season the way fans did? Maybe with the injuries they decided against any big trade deadline move?

all guessing of course

I mean I’m sure that player into it for sure, but if the Bucs are playoff contenders then OBP should view these years as a shot to go all the way..I’m not suggesting that we throw away a future first round pick every year that we’re a playoff contender by any means, but pass rush and MLB have been a need since JPP left(as was previously mentioned perhaps JPP scared Devin White into not loafing?). Regardless pass rush be it starter or depth is a glaring issue that needs to be fixed, be it now or next year regardless of if OBP thinks we’re true Super Bowl contenders…adding to pass rush never hurts the chances

Total desperation.

I believe OBP has done the “all-in” and found it a long-term limitation. They likely think they can get it done in the draft. I think they have never proven that they could find/develop a QB or an Edge Rusher. I think, Licht thinks, he can. I think he wants to prove he can do it. I do think he’s pretty good with an o-line - and he’s done well with WR’s, he’s sketchy on TE’s and maybe even RB’s.

I don’t think he can, I think they got lucky with LVD, so I’m not real sure about his ability to find/develop ILB’s, but he got one, so I’m holding my tongue in that, and I’m willing to concede the cap limitation from the Brady deal limiting defensive free agents to replace fading talent.

I don’t think it’s as profitable to use both the draft and FA’s in the same season to be a legit Super Bowl team, but it’s the way good teams become great teams. So NOT doing it when you have the option means it’s either ego, or it’s a financial limitation from the Glazers.

@white-tiger You may be right on the ego thinking they can draft those positions.  You're certainly right that we've never drafted and developed QB or Edge, and that's kind of where my mind was at as it pertains to getting a young productive-ish player that maybe just needs a change of scenery.  If we could get an edge that will be with us productively for the next 6-8 years with a high ceiling for a first/second rounder then I think you do that, especiailly given that our picks have been later in the rounds for the most part.

As much as I hate to give him credit LVD was blind squirrel Dominick' pick, so Licht doesn't even get credit for that one.  Devin White is the only notable LB that has done anything, and I feel that selection had more to do with Bowles input thinking he could get past his ego and mold him..Clearly that didn't work.  I truly feel like the drafting the past few years on the defensive side of the ball has been decent...there for the most part has been more talent taken then busts, I just feel like these position coaches that are in place haven't truly developed ANYONE on that side of the ball since Bowles took over, even AWJ has plateaued

I had also edited the previous post before i got a scheduled maintainence error to say that as for FA and the draft in the same year, that given the coaches failure to develop talent on defense that perhaps there is a need to bring in vets to show the rookies and young guys how it's done and work with and help develop them behind the scenes. And that S&C coaches need an overhaul, because the number of hammy and soft tissue injuries over the past few years have been ridiculous!
