In a nickel package , which you go to in obvious passing downs , Mack would then line up at end. So actually he would never need to come off the field.
Good point DJ. In that case, yup draft Mack, trade up for Ebron and call it day 1.
...and what makes him dangerous is because even when he as at Sam you can blitz him on certain plays , and then you have a bonafide pass rusher blitzing instead of a standard backer who really isn't that good at rushing.
Not feeling the Mack love.If the Bucs want a situational pass rusher nab Tuck in FA and put him next to McCoy on passing downs and they will melt faces.

You mean we could actually game plan to take advantage of an offense? That really only happens in movies right?
Lol....yes !
Think about this :What if we also sign an End like Tuck , who also can play inside. Then on 3rd and long you can go to nickel and your rushing front 4 could be Clayborn , Tuck , McCoy , and Mack. They're going to wreck shlt .Sorry , I'm in the mad scientists lab this morning , lol.

Unleash the hounds!!!
Im on "team wreck sh*t", for sure.
A better defensive line takes care of a lot of our problems on defense. Mack just became my hopeful pick for us. Plus I'm from NY and Mack is a UB guy so I like when the Bucs draft my NY guys.
Mack, Clowney and Watkins. If we stay at 7, i want one of those 3
I like Mack a lot, but if he comes to the Bucs, 99% chance he's there to play RDE with his hand in the dirt. I keep hearing people say he'll play some sort of hybrid or Leo, but I'd love someone to give me a single player used by Dungy, Lovie, or Frazier in that capacity. You won't find one. I'd also point out that Shea McLellin, a similar hybrid-type player, was a DE in Chicago.

I agree with your overall point but would counter that McClellin goes about 260 lbs. That's pretty much a normal size for a 4-3 rush end. If Mack is really 245 lbs, IMO that makes him on the other side of the threshold for guys you want on the line for running downs.

But last I read McLellin was deemed a bust at DE and will be moved to LB full time next year.

That's a good point, and I generally agree. I think my rebuttal would be:- McClellin was generally considered a weak 260lb. What I mean is that he may have fit the weight criteria, but he didn't and doesn't play up to it. The more I see of Mack the more I'm impressed by his strength to handle bigger guys.- Cliff Avril weighed in at 250lb. at the combine, and is the same height. He now plays - reportedly - at 260lb. I do think Mack looks maxed out, but is 10 pounds a bridge too far? I don't know.

I don't think they are comparable players really - I'm just talking about size, and that Lovie Smith takes players that size and plays them as DEs in a 4-3. Another example is Jerry Hughes with Dungy. But I don't think he's nearly as physical as Mack. Emery loved McClellin when he was looking at 3-4 players for KC, and he stayed in love with him when he went to Chicago's 4-3. From what I understand Chicago could move to a 3-4. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/telander/24728114-452/shea-mcclellin-will-likely-move-to-linebacker.html.
