- McClellin was generally considered a weak 260lb. What I mean is that he may have fit the weight criteria, but he didn't and doesn't play up to it. The more I see of Mack the more I'm impressed by his strength to handle bigger guys.

To be clear I'm speaking in general terms. McClellin may be a weak 260. I was never very fond of him. It could be he just stinks no matter where he plays. I'm speaking more of a generic 260 lb player.

- Cliff Avril weighed in at 250lb. at the combine, and is the same height. He now plays - reportedly - at 260lb. I do think Mack looks maxed out, but is 10 pounds a bridge too far? I don't know.

You may be right. Avril may be reason to think Mack could do it.

Just to be clear - I really like Mack. I think he'll be a very good player in this league. He's probably a safer bet if he's allowed to play in a Von Miller, Bruce Irvin role. I just don't see him playing that role here based on the history of the guys running the D. Maybe they'll be inspired by Seattle or Denver and change it up, but I wouldn't put any money on it.

If we draft Mack it's to play MLB

The Bucs already have one of those in Foster. It would make more sense to play Mack at SAM and then rush him from RDE in passing packages.

Mack would be a liability in coverage as a SAM. I think if you are a 4-3 team you would need to move him to DE. He certainly doesn't have Von Miller cover skills.

I think he has good enough coverage skills to play SAM.Yes, he would have to play DE if you drafted him but as I've said before, I'm not sold on him as a DE for this DL.

I.E. - Von Miller.

If he was going to be 90% of what Von is then I'd say take him, but that's probably not going to be the case.

Foster is just another guy. And he'll command more than he's worth as a free agent.

Yep, just another SAM in my opinion. But it will be interesting to see what Lovie does with him and what the market will be. He's a FA after this season, right?

It will be interesting to see what Mack weighs at the combine.  I agree that he is a beast, but I also think his body is as big as it will get.  If he weighs 240-245 with that much muscle he is too small to play DE in a 43 every down.  If he is closer to 260 he would be worth considering.  Personally I'm hoping for Clowney, Matthews, or Robinson.  I would also be ok with Watkins if all 3 of those dudes are gone.

I hope McShay's plays out and then Watkins will be there when we pick.

+1

Hard to argue with taking the son of an all pro caliber OT who played 20 years in the league and has a half dozen other family members that have or do play in the NFL.  There's no such thing as a sure thing but Mathews is about as close as you can get I imagine.

He'll play for a long time to be sure, but not everyone is convinced he has the feet to play left tackle. So the only guarantee is at least he'll be able to play right tackle or guard.
