Lamar is elite but the main Achilles heel is he can't stay healthy.
Missing 11 games in 5 years isn't what I would consider "injury prone".
Not saying his playing style won't get him hurt in the future, and I'm not sure he'd be a good fit here l...
But I still consider him a top 10 qb and would make us a playoff contender immediately if we waved a magic wand and could get him.
LJ is one injury away from being lost for a whole season. What if he were to sustain the same type of injury as Alex Smith did? He would be lost for several seasons and never have the same running ability. That is a big risk for any team. They would end up paying 40+ million a year, the salary cap would be 40+ million a year salary cap hit. Signing a fully guaranteed contract is a bad business decision for any NFL team.
Yes I'm sure that is what most teams are thinking... but I still don't consider him injury prone
Lamar may not have been injury prone the beginning of his career, but he has missed 9 of Raven's last 21 games due to injury. It appears his style of play is catching up to him.
Guaranteed contracts are coming (the owners arguably colluding to stop it). Running (or mobile) quarterbacks are all the rage now and should be more and more common as teams struggle to compete in a league built around quarterbacks and as the NFL seeks to expand
Fully guaranteed contracts put SOME teams at an advantage because of the escrow requirement, so sort of unraveling the salary cap approach that has kept relative parity in the the league for years.
Interesting times in the NFL

The Alex Smith injury was a freak injury that could happen to anyone. Same as the injury that happened to the UCF QB a few years ago that almost cost him his leg. If I was an owner of a NFL Franchise, I would be worried about the giving a fully guaranteed contract to any player whose career could end on a freak injury.
Lions betting favorites for Lamar.
2nd? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
whoa.
stay tuned!
Even if you don't consider Lamar 'injury prone', he's still a below-average thrower of the football. He's lucky to pass for 3k yards in a given season. By FAR, his biggest advantage is his running ability - an ability that will continue to diminish as he gets older. So why in the world would any GM spend 2 1sts and $250M for a QB that doesn't excel at throwing, while the the primary trait that makes him good is on the decline?
They could do it. Brady's contract is coming off the books next year, and they could load up a lot of the cap consequences into 2024 and beyond. If they don't jam up next years cap with a bunch of restructures they could do do it. But that means they'd have to trade White or Godwin. I'm not saying any of this is a good idea, only that I think it could be done.

Brady's contract doesn't come off until 2027.
