End of an era when David calls it quits. He's got one, possibly two more home games.
I'm not an expert on the NFL, but I'm pretty sure the #1 job of a defensive player is to tackle the offensive player.
NFL Solo Tackles - Career:
1 Ray Lewis+ 1,568 1996-2012 rav
2 London Fletcher 1,384 1998-2013 3TM
3 Derrick Brooks+ 1,300 1995-2008 tam
4 Lavonte David 1,159 2012-2025 tam
5 Bobby Wagner 1,139 2012-2025 3T
Fletcher still not in HOF. WTF.
Tackles are not a HOF stat per se... Look at the top LB for tackles this year and they're all bad and on bad teams:
Brooks (Dolphins)
White (Raiders lolz)
Gray (Titans)
Campbell (Lions - only one on a good team)
Wagner (Washington)
...
Lavonte is a HOF for his other stats like TFL, coverage, sacks, picks, FF, etc
Kuechley is gonna get in before him and Wagner too I think. Just wasn't on too many winning teams and not enough accolades. Then you got younger guys like Warner, Roquan smith guys who are making a name for themselves as off ball linebackers. All these HOF LB's have multiple All-pro first team players.
He might never make it just the fact he doesn't have enough accolades. Imo still one of the very best and has a case for the Hall of fame just due to his stats and being snuffed for accolades is a good argument
Hall of Fame has no consistency. But when you realize it’s a room full of Ira Kaufmans it’s easy to understand why it doesn’t make sense.
I would say no HOF for David. But they did put in Zach Thomas over Ken Norton Jr so who knows.
There's obviously a lot to unpack when talking about the HOF for David. I brought it up of course. But the main reason I'm posting is because I don't see many people acknowledging that a great Buccaneer's career is about to end. It's hard to celebrate when the player won't come out and say he's retiring. He probably doesn't want a lot of attention, but he definitely deserves more than he's getting.

Wagner is considered HOF bound, so yeah LVD definitely should be going to the HOF too when he is finished.

Obviously, I want LVD to make the HOF but these posts are highlighting the challenge.
LVD is a lot closer to Fletcher and Fletcher is not in because of lack of individual accolades (All Pro, Pro Bowl, DPOY). Wagner is considered HOF bound because he has 5 or 6 years of All-Pro and maybe 10 pro Bowls, exactly the stuff that LVD and Fletcher are missing.
Kuechly isn’t a Hall of Famer. He was a fun little regional player but his teams didn’t do much.

Rumblings from the short bus.
LVD will be in Canton.

It also sucks that he didn't go out after playing solid last year... Instead my last memory of him is running around with a full diaper and getting juked by some RB named Neal on the saints

Wut

You have to remember there were so many on here who wanted Kuechly over Safety Mark Barron. And rightfully so. But if we had drafted Kuechly, who only played for like 7 seasons, we would have never had LVD, and David has been an all-time player at linebacker. So many casual on here who couldn’t see the forest for the trees even well after it was clear that Tampa got the better player a round later.
It’s weird…
idk 8 years in teh league 5 first team all pro 2 2nd team all pro, a DROY, and DPOY is dominant and actually led multiple top 5 defenses in the league.
No knock on LVD but i think Kuechly was able too ascend his defense by communicating what was coming every play and also do his part, its how he got that Panthers D rolling. I think the best players are the ones that make not just themselves look good but willing their team to success.
