Go back in time and become Licht.

He signed David for $9m (miss but legacy)

He signed Reddick for $10m (miss)

He resigned Nelson (hit)

He was forced to give Godwin 3 years because Bowles left him in during garbage time. (Big miss but we had to)

Here's what was available at LB instead of trusting 36 year old Lavonte and Dennis (who has zero tackles until the 4th quarter and finished with 1 solo, 2 total).

Crystal Ball, who do you sign?

The 2025 NFL free agency saw many linebackers change teams, with notable signings including Dre Greenlaw to the Broncos, Nick Bolton to the Chiefs, Lavonte David staying with the Bucs, Willie Gay Jr. joining the Dolphins, and Devin White moving to the Raiders, while stars like Bobby Wagner and Eric Kendricks were also available, with many top names like Greenlaw, Bolton, and Wagner finding new or re-signed deals early in the window, though some, like Kyzir White, remained unsigned by mid-year. [1, 2]

Key Signings & Re-signings (by team)
  • Arizona Cardinals: Akeem Davis-Gaither, J.J. Russell
  • Atlanta Falcons: Caleb Johnson, Divine Deablo, Josh Woods
  • Cleveland Browns: Devin Bush, Jerome Baker, Winston Reid
  • Denver Broncos: Dre Greenlaw, Justin Strnad
  • Miami Dolphins: K.J. Britt, Tyrel Dodson, Willie Gay Jr.
  • New England Patriots: Robert Spillane, Christian Elliss, Jack Gibbens
  • New York Giants: Chris Board, Dyontae Johnson, Ty Summers
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Anthony Walker Jr., Lavonte David
  • Tennessee Titans: Cody Barton, Khaleke Hudson
  • Las Vegas Raiders: Devin White, Elandon Roberts, Germaine Pratt
  • Kansas City Chiefs: Nick Bolton (re-signed) [1, 2, 3, 4]
Top Available/Notable Linebackers (as of mid-2025)
  • Bobby Wagner (WAS)
  • Eric Kendricks (DAL)
  • De'Vondre Campbell (SF)
  • Ernest Jones (SEA)
  • Jamien Sherwood (NYJ) [1, 6, 7, 8]
This list reflects activity from early to late 2025; free agency is fluid, but these names highlight major moves. [2, 7]

AI responses may include mistakes.

I never thought Dennis would perform the way he performed this season, just from how he played his first 4 games in 2024 but he has definitely not played well enough. He's been asked to cover the back but always has been a step behind, something isnt processing well for him or he just lacks the m2m skills on a back.

I only really wanted zack bond but he was had for 51m/3 I made a topic on it

The guys on that list that stand out to me are Spillane(solid cheap option always saw him around the ball on teh raiders starting on Pats), Bush(really really liked him out of michigan having a good season recovering well from his acl), Baker(had decent film in miami not starting), greenlaw(Did well in SF dont think he was a fit for us).

Kendricks really liked him out of UCLA followed him at minny but I but hes in that older lost a step LB category

i dont know about Godwin being a miss

Given that Edbuka forgot how to catch and that Godwin looking a little like his old self, i think we got potential

the problem i see is that if Evans leaves, just how good can this offense be

Baker has thrown for over 300 yards just once this year and hasn't throw for over 200 in like 2 months.

Godwin has repeatedly ended drives with critical drops on third down. He did it yesterday.

He went from being a sure hands third down conversion to the yips. Sure it's rust and maybe he will be great next year but right now paying 20m to watching someone limp around and drop passes isn't the best use of the dollar (and I love Godwin).

We had to sign him but it's still a miss THIS YEAR

I think this is the point.  Hes showing signs but still not obviously the Godwin from before. But, if her returns in full then the contract is fine because we didnt really pass on anyone to sign him. In fac t we signed Egbuka, and that should pay dividend for a long time.

Ultimately, as much as everyone want to repeat the NFL mantra that "injuries dont matter," they do. a drop off in talent that can be magnified if/when coaches arent able to overcome it.

Now we play the Falcons and probably without Reddick and Smith? and another shuffled line/

im just glad Wirfs was healthy enough to do his "Mario Kart Course" power rankings.

cant wait to see what bullshit they have in store this week instead of focusing on beating top 5 draft pick teams.

That kind of stuff makes the player relatable when they are winning but yes pisses fans off when they lose.

Godwin was an unrestricted free agent. Signing him was a huge mistake. I don’t care if I catch heat for saying it.

licht could of, and should of, signed Davonte Adams for a smaller deal than he gave Godwin.

he also, 100% should of signed a MLB in free agency if he was gong to completely ignore it in the draft. Since Bowles never adapts his game plan or defensive strategy, I knew we’d see teams chew up the middle of our defense on third and long. It’s happened every single year, this one included.

I might be wrong, but dont they basically have the same deal?  Maybe I missing guarantees or something, I just recall the timing seemed like maybe Godwin and the Bucs were waiting on the Adams deal?

Either way thought its 28ish versus 32ish and Godwin is a centerpiece of the team for years, so it probably make sense they went with Godwin, even if less helpful this year.  Only time will tell though.

I am a fan of Adams too. Just think that team have a tendency to favor resigning their own, for a number of reasons.

Chris Godwin was signed to a 3 year $66 million contract.

Davante Adams was signed to a 2 year $44 million contract.

just as I said originally.

what can’t be overlooked is that Godwin was 5 months removed from a horrific injury while Adams was healthy. We can all see now how that’s playing out for us and the Rams. Licht made a huge mistake. And for the record, I love Chris. I just think he shouldn’t of been resigned following that injury.

yeah plus this isn't Madden

no issue with them resigning Godwin.  Sure this year was a wash but if he can resemble his old self where we saw some glimmer of hope, he is currently our #1 guy

No guarantee Evans returns next season as well

I wasn't disagreeing.  I was specifically agreeing with the part in bold, if you compare THIS season.  Looking now I think Godwin's contract is only guaranteed 2 at 44, that was the thing in my mind.

Also a huge Godwin fan.  I guess we will see how it goes from here.

Captain Hindsight to the rescue!  to infinity and beyond!!!

Adams turning 32 season and thats when WRs tend to drop off.  He broke 1,000 yards last year but was not Adams old with Rodgers throwing to him.

He is fantasy beast this year with 14 TDs but he has Matt Stafford throwing him the ball in a prolific offense.  So yeah easy to look at numbers now and say....we should have signed Adams.  Dont think there were many posters claiming that in March 2025.

Chris Godwin is 3 years younger and likely our #1 guy in 2026 and 2027 seasons.

Sure was there a bit of "man we owe the guy after another Todd Bowles brain dead decision".  Yeah...but i dont think the contract is quite Ryan Jensen contract just yet.
