We dominated them week 4. We have a pretty good roster that has leaned more towards developing defensive talent then finding football studs. Ideally everybody wants stud edge rushers

A lot of the defensive players we draft that arent safety I would say are raw in terms of football IQ when you look at guys like AWJ, Tykee, Mike edwards on film you can see that they have built in instincts of a footballer read react and feel. But when you get raw guys like JTS, logan Hall, Diaby, Braswell, Mccollum, SMB. They are a bit too raw and will need a lot of coaching and good coaching. Some guys are guys that have been about football all their life and just get "it". If we can find football guys on the defensive side we'll be ok. Its hard to find impact edge rushers late in the first, because big guys are always wanted

Ideally I would draft guys with toughness and high football iq which will equate to instincts read react time, not to say you can't coach it in the athletically gifted players like mccollum the instinctive guys are just more likely to contribute earlier because you can trust them earlier and make less mistakes, example izien was able to find the field as an UDFA, Bucky making his way to starter. Theres a mental makeup to these guys.

Kancey is the one Football guy in the defensive trenches that we drafted and I can tell he gets "it".

Like your ideal personality type to draft is Godwin as a rookie takes everything serious about football, and is prepared

One big defacto I think in the eagles drafting is they drafted defensive players from demanding SEC defenses in ALA and GA, they are battle hardened to have a couple screws loose about football and be assignment sound, so they are more "NFL ready".

I think Braswell and Diaby can come along but we need always need edge rushers

just some thoughts

Pass rushers in waves. That's the lesson.

Like the old Bucs defenses.

One good thing Licht does is focus on the trenches like the Eagles do. That is why I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucs go edge, DL, and OL in the first four rounds of the draft.

Showed me we were all right last offseason when we said JTS is trash and Yaya is all hope and potential. Not exactly what you want from your pass rush. We need legit pass rushers added. We haven’t had that since Shaq in 2019. At this point, that was a VERY long time ago.

@alldaway - waves is fine, but it still comes down to talent. The Bucs have waves of edge players, but they don’t win their pass rush battles enough. The lesson is you can’t get by with average edge players.

True, but a reminder, the Eagles were without WR1 Brown and WR2 Smith when the Bucs hosted them in week 4.

"“It was a repeat of Tampa,” Collinsworth said of the [Eagles] beating the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. “I mean, it just was. So the formula is now known, right?

Honestly, Mahomes never gets hit. When he does this happens. He has the combo of a great line, quick plays, and refs allowing holding against the d lines.

I want to see a full season of Kancey and Dennis go at it because I have a feeling they can be wrecking balls in the middle of the defense.  Just need that alpha edge to round out the front seven.

Mahomes was already declining in production and play.

I'm not gonna chicken little his success but the chiefs won close games with zero explosive plays and couldn't run the ball. Now Kelce on the verge of retiring and all their rag tag wrs are just another year older.

When Mahomes isn't getting the calls he doesn't play well... And their line was exposed.

Chiefs will continue to be a contender but against any legit pass rush they're gonna struggle... And their skill position is only going to get worse next year.

11 wins next year

This would be great, but not sure i follow the Dennis part?  if Dennis is the 2025 starter ILB next to LVD . . Dennis would be the one running away from the LOS all the time because LVD cant do it anymore. LVD would be doing the blitzing like his did this year?

Maybe I misunderstand your point

I like Dennis and you can see the drop off when he was injured during the 2024 season BUT relaying on Dennis as the presumptive starter in 2025 is NOT a plan focused on winning, its a plan focused on making do with what we have (ie 2022 -2024).

The Bucs should be trying to replace him with better and if he wins the job then great. Recall that he could not beat out KJ Britt.

I think we were missing most of our secondary and some other key players if memory serves... Goedeke too?

Both teams were banged up but yeah them not having their two best WRs was obviously huge.

And they hadn't settled on their secondary and they didn't run it enough with Barkley

@seekpar Stop.  No one gives a rip they were injured.  Last I checked they were pretty healthy on defense, and we dropped 30+ on them.  Never use injuries as an excuse in the means of comparison.  To that end, Rice, and WR for the Chiefs, who was on pace to have a top 5 year, went down with an ACL and didn't finish the season. It's football, everyone is injured.  Tampa is a better team than the Eagles. Debate your Mom.
