This post is simply for fun. Just clowning around... Leave no stone unturned when it comes to the draft, right? For those who are crazy enough to actually read this, I'm going to do my best to entice you into accepting a QB at 7.
There are currently rumors circulating that some sort of news regarding the uber investigation is forthcoming as early as Tuesday. It's said to be bad news for Winston and the Bucs.
If he is suspended for, let's say four games, is there any shred of potential that we could take a QB at 7?
If you group Mayfield, Allen, Rosen, and Darnold together as the top 4 in the draft, there's a decent chance one of them will be available at 7. Probably Rosen.
Now, I'm not saying we would cut or trade Jameis in this scenario. We would be drafting an insurance policy if nothing else.
Given the brutal start we would have to the season, especially if Winston is sitting at home, we need a QB that can come in and win games. Fitzpatrick is a solid veteran but I'm not convinced we would make it to the bye week with more than a single W, and that's IF we can topple the Bears in week four.
Rosen is said to be the most plug and play QB in this draft, with the highest ceiling. He has all of the abilities, especially his clutch factor (don't want to go anywhere near saying it's on Brady's level, but it's almost Brady-like. Example: Brady's super bowl comeback against the Falcons versus Rosen's insane 30 something point comeback last season).
A couple scenarios would justify this selection in my opinion:
1) Rosen starts in week one and seamlessly acclimates to the NFL, making enough great plays to get us to 2-2, maybe even 3-1 heading into the Bye. Rosen and the offense have improved each week and they look to be rolling. Management decides to stick with Rosen. He ends up being the badass QB he says he is, and we end up trading Jameis in week 5 to the Bills in exchange for emerging #1 CB Tredavious White and their 2019 1st round pick.
2) Rosen goes through rookie struggles and posts a losing record going into the Bye. Winston then comes back, fired up and motivated after watching his team draft a QB in the top 10 and watching a rookie getting to start in his place. Hopefully, Winston then leads us to the playoffs after his suspension. We then trade Rosen for a ransom. With Jake Fromm likely being the only major QB to come out next year, Rosen would have a ton of trade value. Even if he looked like a train wreck for 4 weeks in Tampa, some desperate team will offer a decent 1st round pick at the very least.
Ultimately the upside of doing this is that you could end up getting a better quarterback than what you have in Winston. At least someone more consistent, reliable, and clean off the field. You wouldn't do this unless you're convinced that Rosen or any other QB available can be a franchise guy.
Even if you have Peyton Manning, you're not gonna pass up on Tom Brady IF Peyton is running around grabbing crotches with Trump and getting himself suspended.
IF Jameis is found guilty with some sort of damning evidence or story inconsistencies, and IF you think you can get a franchise QB at #7, you have to at least contemplate it. Don't you?
