And it has clearly carried over into this season. When your veteran paid players are not brining their A game it is a problem.
Still think this team can find a way to reach 8 wins this year but for them to reach 9 or double digit wins seems slim. The talent on this team is of a .500 ball club and it looks like they need another draft to pull themselves out of this.
But that is not what really bothers me. What really bothers me is the existing all pro players playing so lackluster and without fire. That is troubling and Bowles and Licht did nothing to address that this past season other than signing some veteran defenders here and there on short rental deals.
The players matter little when the scheme has been figured out, which it clearly has. QB's from all different tiers have marched up and down the field on this defense, vets, journeymen, injury replacements, rookies, etc. Consider also the lack of sacks and turnovers and it's very clear the league has completely figured out our scheme. Nothing works forever. Everyone with even mild intelligence knew retaining Bowles was the wrong decision, this isn't hindsight. The franchise needs a complete reset and it's not going to happen until this team is sold.
Scheme can be figured out but if your all pros are not balling that is also a problem with players. Licht overrates the current players on the roster. So this team needs more talent and while a new scheme could squeeze out a win or two more reality is this team is another draft away. Long term problem is do we trust Bowles to develop these future 2027 draftees? My instincts say no right now.
