Coverage is not his strong suit but liability is an exaggeration. I mean the guy returned 2 ints for touchdowns . Our coverage issues stem mostly from our 2 and 3 corners , who couldn't cover their own shadows.Mason had a good season overall. LB should not be a priority for us.
He is a liability in coverage. If he can't cover, he can't. And he really isn't good in coverage, and never really has been. He is a hustler, and a thumper. Those returns were incredible, FWIW. But Lovie isn't going to be content with Mase manning the middle, unless he drastically improves his speed and coverage ability. He isn't going to. Again, I imagine Lovie might trade the seven out if the guy he truly wants cannot be had, or is drafted elsewhere, if he can. at that point, I think he will be looking for a MLB, unless he goes after Wood.Which would be cool.David/Wood/MaseLooks good to me.
I do not agree. But don't worry , if it turns out we do draft an MLb early , Buggsy the scarecrow will dig up this thread's grave and bump it for you . Lol
Woodyard is a decent football player, but he isn't truly stud MLBer. He is a better option than Mase, IMO. He runs a high 4.4, low 4.5...I still think Lovie will draft a MLB and shock the Bucs world. (sort of)
What Lovie NEEDS is some pass rush. The LB is secondary!!

That's right... If he drafts a MLB in the first, he better be Patrick Willis or Navarro Bowman.

Been beating that drum for a long time. But after Clowney, what else is there from the DE spot?Kony Ealy is alright, you'd be cool with that? There are some nice FA DEs out there...the good one will cost a ton of jack. The others are a step below, but would do much to improve the lack of pass rush. Bowers sucks.I think Lovie, at that point, would try to trade that 7 away, move the pick into the high teens, twenties, and take the best available DE or MLBer, and use the other picks to search for depth.
Brandon Spikes will be available in UFA. Great against the run, not sure about getting back into coverage but he brings the physical presence I think Lovie wants from his MLB
FMB - Foster is 10x better than Spikes in coverage.

More like 100X. Spikes is also a knucklehead of the supreme order. In reality, the free agent class for linebackers, and 4-3 midders particularly, is rather thin. Angerer (from Indy) is a Ruud type at LBer. He would actually be an improvement over Mase in the middle, but he will probably get more than he deserves because of the thin FA class (linebackers).Lovie needs to draft a solid athlete that needs to be coached up (to man the mid spot).Hmmm...not sure what happens. Maybe nothing.

Angerer isnt better than Foster. Not even close.
CJ Mosley
He certainly would fit in this defense with his slight size. I'd be for it if it gets Foster out of the middle. He shouldn't be playing there.
Check. Check. Go Bucs!!!

Don't want the guy.
Lovie will most likely run some form of his T2, I'm sure with some evolution, so he needs his sacks from the front four.
I am sorry and not to be rude but how many freaking times does it have to be said???? Lovie has even come out and said it himself, they are not running the damn Tampa Two every damn play. EVERY team in the league runs it at times and NO team runs it primarily. In Lovie's last couple years with the Bears they ran primarily Man Free. Get that picture of Urlacher, during their Super Bowl run, running down the field with the TE every play. That is not happening here in Tampa more than a few times a game.
Yeah. Thanks for the update.Like I said in my original statement...not to be rude...but I said some form of the T2, with SOME EVOLUTION. I have read the statements made by Lovie, but more importantly, I watched BEARS games when he was the coach...So what sort of defense will Lovie run than, Bucs449? Is he going mostly man, with some zone, some hybrid zone? Again, he will be running base formations out of the 4-3, and he will be running the T2 more than its fair share, I'm certain. So he will need a stud linebacker in the middle to cover the seams, cover the Cam Newtons of the world, the Grahams of the world...
Clearly you didn't watch many BEARS games because you would then know that the majority of the coverage Lovie used in his last few years as coach with the BEARS was Man Free to take advantage of the skill of the corners they had. Yea they will be running some Tampa 2, like they will run all types of coverages. You actually will be seeing them run mostly man, I'm certain of that. Especially considering the $16 million island. They need good players all around the defense. You are saying they need some all world MLB who can run down the seam. No they don't. Tampa Two is a play, and it is no longer a scheme that is used a lot. Like I said, EVERYONE runs it at times, NOBODY uses it all the time.
Spikes is slower then a constipated mummy smh foster doesn't make plays behind the line of scrimmage we need a athletic mlb like butler from the chargers or a p Willis foster will suck at olb his man coverage skills suck he's Barrett Rudd 2.3 I'd rather try dekota there then that guy

Never said anyone uses it ALL the time. And Lovie will want that stud MLB. A guy who can cover. Mase isn't that guy. He is downhill for daaaays...
