Foster just disappears after the 5th or 6th game in the season. He's done it for 3 seasons now. Maybe Lovie can get him to be an impact player for all 16 games.
Lovie will most likely run some form of his T2, I'm sure with some evolution, so he needs his sacks from the front four.
I am sorry and not to be rude but how many freaking times does it have to be said???? Lovie has even come out and said it himself, they are not running the damn Tampa Two every damn play. EVERY team in the league runs it at times and NO team runs it primarily. In Lovie's last couple years with the Bears they ran primarily Man Free. Get that picture of Urlacher, during their Super Bowl run, running down the field with the TE every play. That is not happening here in Tampa more than a few times a game.

Is he going mostly man, with some zone, some hybrid zone? Again, he will be running base formations out of the 4-3, and he will be running the T2 more than its fair share, I'm certain. So he will need a stud linebacker in the middle to cover the seams, cover the Cam Newtons of the world, the Grahams of the world...
Clearly you didn't watch many BEARS games because you would then know that the majority of the coverage Lovie used in his last few years as coach with the BEARS was Man Free to take advantage of the skill of the corners they had. Yea they will be running some Tampa 2, like they will run all types of coverages. You actually will be seeing them run mostly man, I'm certain of that. Especially considering the $16 million island. They need good players all around the defense. You are saying they need some all world MLB who can run down the seam. No they don't. Tampa Two is a play, and it is no longer a scheme that is used a lot. Like I said, EVERYONE runs it at times, NOBODY uses it all the time.
Never said anyone uses it ALL the time. And Lovie will want that stud MLB. A guy who can cover. Mase isn't that guy. He is downhill for daaaays...

Mase is a decent player, but when you look at the MIKE's Lovie has worked with in his career, guys like Hardy Nickerson, London Fletcher, and Brian Urlacher, Foster definitely doesn't measure up to those guys. I'd like to see him moved to SAM, but if anybody can make him into a stud, it's Lovie. I'll bow to his wisdom on the matter.

So what sort of scattershot defense will they run? A defense that requires, exclusively, a thumping middle linebacker who are bad in coverage?A three four in one half, then a 4-4-3 the next? Will they swap out players uber fast, like the Chip Kelly on defense?They will be in a 4-3, and will, as stated in the OP, use an evolved form of it (I hope). Mase doesn't fit the ideal description of a 4-3 linebacker in a 4-3 scheme, manning the middle. He just doesn't. What the hell man? He cannot cover. He has been part of a bad pass defending team. ANYONE here will tell you he isn't solid in coverage. He just lacks the ability.He is replaceable, and I fully expect Lovie to swap him out unless he evolves himself (as a player).Time will tell, but I will be mildly surprised if Mase is starting in the middle. He may get the level of coaching he needs to excel, so that is my fingers crossed wish.
They are NOT running the Tampa 2 or some "evolved" form of it. Why is that so hard to understand and why the hell do you think they will? Based on what? Yea Foster needs to be good at covering, like the offensive line needs to be good at blocking, and the punter needs to be good at punting. Like I said, talking about Foster's coverage ability is fair, but don't say Lovie needs a good coverage MLB with thoughts of Urlacher going through your mind. He needs the best players they can get for their positions. Jeez.
It's not really a "Tampa 2" thing. A MIKE that can't cover well is an issue for any 4-3 scheme in today's NFL.

I don't know if a "stud MLB" is needed. Would anyone quantify Shelton Quarles as a "stud MLB"? Frankly, have the Bucs even had a "Stud MLB" since Hardy? I do like Woodyard though. Kick Foster out to Sam, let Woodyard take the middle and it would be a good thing. However, Woodyard gets hurt a lot.
