Yea, cyber. Kind of takes some of the luster off when Raheem is the second one before you. Maybe should've have said second good black coach for the Bucs.
but Lovie respects coach Rah. I mean he did coach a 10+ win season in this league.
I love how it's portrayed as "white folk" keeping racism alive today but then every time a person of color does something they are the first to proclaim how proud they are of "their people" and/or have to separate themselves out from the crowd. Can you imagine if Schiano had said "I'm happy to be the 7th white coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs, White Pride!"He'd have been strung up from the nearest goalpost and proclaimed a rasist.
I dont see it being petrayed like that. Lovie was speaking in the Context of a historical significant fact...as a minority. Even if Schiano was responding matter of factly about being the 7th white HC of the Bucs, its still not historically significant in our society. I'm with Lord Revis on this, black or white, just win.
Sorry but being the 3rd isn't historically significant, it's not even 3rd league wide, it's 3rd for a single franchise. That post is a perfect example of how everything, no matter how insignificant gets boasted about. He's just another coach at this point who happens to be black, there is nothing significant about it.

Damn those black people!!!!

I'll admit it's not worded in the best way but the point is there to be seen. There is talk about how we should all be treated equal and we're all the same but the moment a person of color does something that all goes out the window and it's all "We're proud of our/my people."You can't have it both ways, you are either different, in which case celebrate away when something truly significant happens but don'y cry when some others decide to treat you different too or you are the same as everyone else and it's just another day unless it's a significant event for all of mankind.I personally don't see being the 3rd, like Lovie, as being anything significant, it's not like it broke any real boundaries. How many remember the name of the 3rd person on the moon?Only 12 guys in history ever did that and it's a massive thing but I bet very few can name that guy without looking it up.At what point does something lose significance just because a black person did it, the 5th time? 6th?Fritz Pollard was significant, being the 3rd to coach the Bucs after already holding the same title elsewhere for 9 years, not so much.
Dude, their grandparents were lynched in public. We're not all that far removed from segregation. Preceded by hundreds of years of brutal slavery. White people did everything we could to make them different for what like 300 years. How about making a few small continued concessions to bring them back as equals. Damn. Stupid stand to take imo.
I believe you have trumped the wording of your initial post. Stop digging would be my advice.
Where is bootz when you need him ?

How do you make a person equal by having different standards? You are either equal or you are different.I like how you say it's a stupid stand to take, you mean not factoring race into it and expecting it to be treated equally?Isn't that the goal that is strived for?I guess the "smart" stance is to be racist and treat them different, "Woohoo 3rd black head coach!!!! Congrats on getting a job that 2 other black guys have held for 9 of the past 18 years, you really broke some boundary there, I'm not sure what it is but... black guy did something YAY!!!"BTW you might want to actually research slavery a bit more rather than just going with the common idea that it was a racist thing. There were white slaves too, there were blacks who had other blacks as slaves, it was blacks who sold other blacks in Africa into slavery, but those things don't fit the story that is commonly pushed of the "evil white man".

I guess we can help by not responding.....

LOL ^^^^^Its kind of a backhanded compliment IMO. So, in other words, your a team that changes HC's quite often? A better compliment would be, your a black HC, going on 8 years with the same organization. And have a Super Bowl win, a NFL Coach of the Year Award, and 2 AFC Championships under your belt. [Tomlin]

to you it isn't significant but to Lovie it is. Whats so hard about that to understand? As a black man I dont look to be treated any differently than anyone else but sometimes I'm reminded I am a minority in this country so yes, when a minority becomes the HC of my fav team or becomes president of the U.S., I do share their feelings of pride and success. Likewise being human affords me the same feelings when Pete Carrol succeeds or anyone else for that matter... except for the falcons
"...when a minority becomes the HC of my fav team or becomes president of the U.S., I do share their feelings of pride and success."When a white person does this it's called "racism." That's the double standard right in front of us that most people want to pretend they can't see. But we're asked to embrace this double standard in hopes of obtaining the long term goal of eliminating double standards. Orwell would have been proud.

Please give an example of a white person sharing another white persons feelings of success as being Racist?
