I think its safe to say that the year off for Lovie Smith did absolutely NOTHING to help him prepare for this job. Lets face it...after Schiano Bucs fans needed a big name coach so that they could remedy the situation that the Bucs put themselves in...so they go out and grab the biggest name out there. In comes Lovie...we all love him because of his days here in Tampa under Monte Kiffin. But lets be honest...would we have really embraced Lovie as much as we did if he didn't already have ties here?I mean this man was known for being an absolute idiot when it came to offense. He was gifted one year by insane defense that carried the team. The years afterwards it was very weak and he never learned his lesson in regards to offensive philosophy. Bringing in Jay Cutler stands out as one of the biggest reasons why I don't think Lovie knows anything about offense. I mean look at him...Jay is one of the highest paid QBs in the league and for what reason? Hes an INT machine, always hurt and has not a single clutch bone in his body. But Lovie stuck with him regardless. He's still stuck in the archaic Tampa 2 defense that any good QB can dissect like they do...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look back at our defense last year. I know everyone is going to try and pretend to notice a major change at the end but that didn't improve the record one bit. Now we have to sit here and watch the man who took a bad team and made it even worse get the privilege of using the first overall pick on a QB that has character concerns, INT problems and an overwhelming sense of entitlement. He is so ancient in his coaching style that if its somewhat different than his old school style of football then he wants nothing to do with it. The fact that he really didn't have an OC last season says how horrible his decision making skills were. Only after having one of the worst starting QBs and worst offensive units ever does he figure out we need a OC after the season is over. We have to face facts here people....Lovie is an ancient coach that got a job based on his reputation. Now we have to let Lovie Smith make the most important decision for our franchise in regards to a starting QB. Based on his previous track record regarding ANYTHING offense...why should we trust this man to get it right? Im pro-Mariota and I know he is not a day one starter but neither is Winston. I just hope Licht grows some balls and steps up to Lovie Smith and do the right thing but not putting their faith into a QB who is interception prone and has off-field issues.
