During Smith's tenure with the Bears, they ranked higher than 23rd in offense only once. They have ranked 28th or lower four times and finished 28th in 2012. That, combined with the Bears failure to reach the playoffs five out of the last six years, caused them to release Smith. The best year they had under Smith, the year they went to the Super Bowl, was the year they drafted Devin Hester. But by the next year teams stopped kicking the ball to Hester and that was the end of that.In the nine years Smith coached at Chicago, only the Browns averaged fewer offensive yards per game.
Tedford as OC
he's already hired jeff tedford a his OC.i'm not sure about that move.
Lets not forget that for all those "We just need to add an offensive mind to help him get over that hump" comments it isn't that simple. The guy had Mike Martz as OC for a few years and they still stank, so it's no sure thing anyone will improve those numbers.
Smith has a history with the franchise, serving as linebackers coach in Tampa from 1996-2000. Smith was head coach of the Bears from 2004-2012 and compiled a career record of 81-63 and won the NFC North three times and the NFC Championship once (2006). http://miami.cbslocal.com/2013/12/30/report-lovie-smith-favorite-to-become-new-bucs-coach/
Jason Cole ?@JasonPhilCole 49mOther names attached to Lovie Smith coaching staff: OL Tony Sparano, DC Leslie Frazier and obviously Rod Marinelli in any capacity he wants
We have more talent on our offense than Lovie ever had in Chicago.
Personell has a good deal to do with that. But yeah, the Lovie hire scares me for that very reason.
It all comes down to who the QB is. Tony Dungy couldn't coach offense for crap in Tampa but put up a ton of points with Manning. If the Bucs have a bad QB, they're going to have a bad offense whether Lovie Smith is the head coach or anyone else.

BRING IT ON!!!

PLEASE
so much for Lovie having the Bucs job tied up. he wouldnt be campaigning (all the tweets) if he did. A tweet first about an OC (because of the thoughts expresed in the OP) and then a tweet about NFL experience . . and even Marinelli thrown in!Lovie must want the job because that list is tailor made for the Bucs
In Lovies last 3 years they were never top 10 in points per game (the only stat that matters). They were #2 this year. No thank you.
Sporano is solid for OLDon't think we can get him thought unless Oakland cleans house, and right now it looks like they are leaning toward keeping their staff
