I think in the midst of the Freeman and MRSA drama, caught up in the 0-8 talk, lost behind the McCoy and David conversations and the Glennon over hate/over praise was Mason Foster very quietly having a fantastic season. He may not be a HOFer but I feel comfortable with him there, he's like our newer Shelton Quarles lol. Any thoughts/Feeling about Mason Foster? I really liked the guy coming out of Washington, but felt like he was more suited for Will, but he's doing great at Mike

I personally didn't think he had a great year besides a couple of splash plays. It may be time to get a bonafide MLB in here to compete and groom.Too many runs up the middle when we needed stops, We need a MLB that goes sideline to sideline and I didn't see that too much out of Mason.Just my opinion.
I like him. Too stiff in coverage to ever play a Quarles role but is becoming a true playmaker at the line of scrimmage. I think a lot of us are still stuck in the Tampa 2 days: one thing Schi and She did right was having the safeties play a much more active role in centerfield to cover Mason's deficiencies.
I'm not saying he's an amazing player, but I like what he's doing and feel like he has better potential with better coaching. He doesn't need to be a superstar, we have 2 of those in our front 7 already, he just has to be solid and make the plays when they're there for him, which I feel like he has done well
Replay some games and iso on him. Then come back here with your opinion.
Tim, MLB is one of the least of our worries. Mason isn't perfect but plenty good enough to roll with for now.
Until this year, I have always felt that it is a mistake to have him at middle, when he didn't really do much of it in college. Even this year I am not sure that he would not be better playing at Sam. What makes it a bit odd to me is that Middle linebackers aren't super expensive. I never understood why we felt the need to convert him.
Blame Rah.

We don't have much choice but to roll with him, do we?
I thought he had a good year but I still think his best position would be LOLB. He just doesn't have the sideline to sideline speed I like in a MLB.
Played better last season in my opinion. He's also the exact opposite of Quarles in terms of his style, although I don't think that's a bad thing. If we get Lovie, I could see him wanting a player with more range or moving David. He played well and definitely helped David have a good season, the defensive touchdown was great, best play of the year in my eyes.
Pure downhill 2 down MLB. He's a bit like an upmarket version of Nate Webster if we are doing comparisons.
"If we get Lovie, I could see him wanting a player with more range or moving David."Is that what you meant to say? 'Cause that's just crazy talk.
Foster is solid but not amazing. He is the least of our worries for the time being.
Put me down for starting Mason in 2014, in the middle. I'll focus my off season on upgrading the trenches.
