Two QB'S that played well last year and are available in free agency. Cassel. 6'4" 228 lbs.He is a pocket passer with limited mobility.Has a great arm.He makes quick decisions and looks very efficient when his first read is correct.Not as calm as you would prefer in the pocket. Limited pocket presence beyond 3 seconds, he can feel phantom pressure and not good at keeping his focus down field. When the plays breaks down he has issues including a propensity to fumble the ball.Would be better off on a team with a very good OL and a quick strike based passing attack like the West Coast offense. He is the top choice if you are looking for a veteran traditional pocket passer. Most likely will be a backup as he is somewhat limited by his skill set. McCown. 6'4" 215 lbs.Good pocket presence and decisive when first read is correct. Very good at improvising when the play breaks down. Goes through his progressions very well while maneuvering in the pocket to avoid pressure. Very accurate with his throws. Able to fit the ball into tight windows. Has very good escapability and can pick up a first down with his feet. McCown I have rated as the no.1 free agent QB. Cassel is no.2 and there isn't really a no.3 that I would be interested in. McCown has the ability to step right in and start and be an instant upgrade for probably a dozen teams but he is not considered a long term solution because of his age. Therefore he will likely be looking at a few teams who want to sign him up to compete for the starting job. There would surely be a huge market for him as a backup as well, but he is likely to chase the money and go to the highest bidder and likely start this year. I think McCown is the perfect fit here. He can step right in and is a polished veteran. I believe that with the receivers we have now he would be very effective. Glennon needs to hit the weight room for about two years so I would sign McCown to a two year contract.

Minnesota has no playmakers outside of Patterson and they hardly played him at WR this year. Most importantly, neither of these guys will crawl up into the fetal position in the second half like Glennon does. McCown could be a top 10 QB.

McCown is 3 years older than Cassel. But it doesn't matter, if they are just looking for a 1 year clipboard holder. If Glennon failed big time, they will draft a QB in 2015 rather then hand the starting job to either one of these guys.
I feel like history is repeating itself.Tall qb, had to take over when he wasn't ready, started under incompetent staff, able to "fix" him with the next, and he hasn't won any major games.It's as if freeman is dawning a white guy suit and figured out how to throw the ball out of bounds.To me, glennon, cassel, and mccown might as well be clones of the same average bread. And in all honestly, these guys might prove to be a better option for "win now" mode, because glennon hasn't really even started a full season yet.

Hold up so Ur telling me that mccown whose been in the league about 13 years now got with a good qb coachand is now going to become a top 10 qb? I just don't see that happening. He was throwing to Brandon Marshall alshon Jeffrey and m. Bennett and earl Bennett so it's not like he had A bunch of scrubs that he made look better. I would def want mccown over cassell but he has some questions to prove before considering if last year was just an anomaly for him or was a hint of how good he is.

Mccown could be, I agree.However, you have to look at the dark side of everything. In this instance, with mccown we'd have a lot less time. He's getting up there, and it takes time to learn systems, players, yaddayadda..Then, as someone else had asked...why did it take him this long for the light to turn on? Is he just a product of the system, did he get a ton of help from his ol, could the wideouts have helped him out drastically, or..did the light just flip on?There isn't a qb that is available, draft or fa, that won't come with baggage, or have some sort of hidden problem. Which is why tedford becomes a very important piece of the puzzle going forward.
Who cares why it took him 13 years. He played like a top 10 QB last year. I'm not evaluating his entire career just last season. He was very good. The whole idea is that we don't want Glennon starting. I don't want to watch another disaster season. If either of these players can help us avoid that, I am on board.
