Definitely looks like Mayfield has a big edge right now. He didn't make any mistakes. Trask wasn't terrible and he didn't get a lot of time to throw, but we didn't see anything that would make you think we should be starting him over Mayfield.
edge? He won the job tonight dude
Are you related to trask?

The Bucs staff has said that they will still evaluate up to pre season game 3 supposedly so there is still a second pre season game to be played still.
Sorry I wasn't emphatic enough for you. Mayfield has won the job. He went 8-9 and showed the ability to roll out to the left and find a receiver. It was a simple play that went for less than ten yards probably, but the announcers even commented on how you would never see that play with Brady back there. Trask didn't look statuesque, but compared to Mayfield he's big and lumbering. The offensive line is a work in progress, which is why you need to be able to call plays that keep the defense from getting too laser focused on rushing the QB. Mayfield showed that whatever rust he was brushing off in practice has been brushed off or so it would seem from that small sample size. He still hasn't been tested when it comes to hanging onto the ball when he gets tackled, but I don't know what Trask can do next week that would cause people to say "Wow put Trask in!" Seems like that's impossible at this point. Hows that? Emphatic enough for you?Definitely looks like Mayfield has a big edge right now. He didn't make any mistakes. Trask sucks. Wasted a pick during a SB run on a back up QB that will never be a long term answer at QB. So many other guys we couldve taken there that wouldve contributed to this team.
I am willing to see the QB1 competition play out because next week the team will do more prep work for the 2nd game and that is when we see the mental aspects come to the forefront.
Trask stood tall in the pocket and scanned the field very well. The problem with Trask is that he is young and he still has to understand you need to live another day based on situational football. That was Winston's weakness of trying to play hero ball on third and long which sometimes worked and sometimes it was a train wreck.

watch it play out all you want but the more time goes on, the more you will realize the coaching staff “qb competition” was never about trask and more about keeping mayfield on his toes and motivated
let’s say it was 50/50 in your eyes before game 1; if you’re being honest with yourself, given their performances; what did it change to after - 90/10?
trask would need a 3 TD performance in game 2 to keep the job a “question mark” heading into game 3.
matter of fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if mayfield doesn’t play at all in game 2; and they just have him pay a series to start in game 3
Why risk your starter with backup offensive line man?

but .. but .. Trask was so good in PRACTICE (Iverson voice) that the Red Board said Mayfield had to clearly beat Trask to take the job away from him!
I think I read that here. Who posted that?
Most of the Bucs starters were not out there in game 1 and initial reports indicate that will be a repeat in game 2. So yes Mayfield and Trask will play another game with backup OL out there and backup skill positions.
That is probably a fair way to do an evaluation but the scrimmages will matter too because they will be using real plays and not vanilla.

Haven't see this reported anywhere, but if true, then it will give them both a fair litmus test.
Regardless, based on the route concepts we saw the other night, I can't wait to see Evans and Godwin in the regular season!
So the guy who dink and dunked (7.9ypc) soooo outplayed the guy who had 16.5ypc, right? Trask threw a pick after a poor second and long play call put them in 3rd and 16. He missed the guy coming over. Happens to every QB in this league. The rest of the time, Trask actually moved the ball well when he had time (which was mostly early drives), but had two drives end with dropped passes. If those are caught, he's 8 of 10 for ~130 yards, probably more as those drives would have continued. I want to see Mayfield playing with the same guys Trask was and see if he doesn't fumble the ball away on some sacks or throw some of his trademarked INT's. I was certainly hoping for Trask to look better, but I was also hoping that both QB's would get time playing with the full set of starters so we could get a better feel for what they truly have and don't have. The Steelers played their starters and moved right down the field on our backups. Considering Tomlin's record, I think his plan was probably the better way to go. You have a new offense and your not even getting game reps for all the no. 1's? Just stupid.
Mayfield is who he is. Trask needs experience to get faster during game time situations, and that's just not going to happen on the bench. He's still out there in preseason playing with a number of guys who won't even be on the 53.

Kieft made a bad drop from Trask's throw which was going to be a big play and move the chains. I watched the game and watched both QBs closely and to be honest there wasn't a time I felt that the QBs didn't understand the offensive system. All three QBs looked comfortable with the offensive system but it was hard to judge the skill positions with how erratic the OL play was. Wirfs, Fieler and Jensen were not out there along with Godwin and Evans missing so it was a good test to see how all three QBs adjusted without those key players in the line up.
The QBs, RBs and backup WRs all impressed me game 1 and I look forward to seeing game 2 with Trask and Mayfield flipping. Game 2 will have prep work for their opponents so it will showcase more chess match and pre snap prowess.
The Trask pick was an extremely late read.
The flat had an easy 10-15 yard gain.
Bad play but I won't judge his entire future based on it...
I'm more concerned with his lack of mobility.
Mayfield played with the starters? No white, no evans, no Godwin, no Jensen, no Wirfs
can we agree that mayfield at least played against better defensive competition or we going to keep our heads in the sand just to be “debatable dans”
