I think if we brought Bennett back and drafted Aaron Donald, our starting D-line would be sick. Spence is great depth at DT. We'd just need to decide if we wanna let Means, Gholston, and Bowers fight it out for the back up DE spot....or if we need to bring in another guy thru FA or the draft. Personally I think we'd still need another DE because the 3rd DE in a 4-3 is basically a starter imo, and I'm not convinced Means or Gholston are any good and Bowers is garbage.

Spence is a good NT, and Id like to see some depth there. Im not sold on drafting Donald, but not b/c I dont think he can play but rather that he seems to only fit the role currently filled by McCoy. Its WAY too early to judge our two 4th round draft picks from last year. Personally I see Gholston as the Clayborn insurance. I think AC is playing at a higher level right now, but see Gholstons ceiling being about the same. Not sure AC gets a 2nd Buc contract.
Not to put too much stock in PFF.....but they have Spence ranked dead last in pass rushing DTs. I realize a NT's main job is not pass rushing, but to be dead last among all other NTs? That's poop. And if you look at the NTs in Lovie's defenses, as well as the NTs in our old defenses.....they didn't just eat blocks. They got pressure too. Most of them average 5-6 sacks a year and get plenty of QB pressures. Donald can eat blocks, shed blocks, and play the run every bit as good a Spence, probably better.....but he is also a ridiculous pass rusher. Having him next to McCoy would be such a drastic upgrade and make a huge difference in our pass rush overall. With that much pressure coming right up the middle on every snap, QBs can't step up into the pocket. Our DEs would feast.
Can he occupy a double team and hold his gap ? That is the main job of a nose guard , not pass rushing. At 285 I'd say probably not. To assume he'd be as strong against the run as Spence is seeing things through Jduds Mancrush colored glasses.

I dont think Donald will be able to eat blocks nearly as much as Spence just based on size alone. Will Donald be a better pass rusher, probably but he is still on the small side and I wonder how he will hold up against the run. Not to mention...how many times were we running stunts last year? I dont see Spence doing well with stunts seeing as how he is more anchor, less boat.
It'd be nice to have a guy like Donald as a rotational guy especially for pass-rush packages but unless the Bucs acquire more premium picks, I don't see them overlooking other impact players in areas of need.

The thing is Spence barely even plays on passing downs. It's not 11-on-11 football. You have 53 players on your roster and can put them on the field and take them off based on situations. You don't have to have a NT that can occupy blockers and rush the passer. You can have two different guys, which means neither has to be complete players and thus as individuals they're easier to find and cost less.
Not if you draft one in the 1st round...
Not going to regurgitate everything I said in the other thread about Donald, but if you look at the size of the NT in the Bucs defense from 1995-2005 as well as the NT in Chicago during Lovie's 10 years there....you'll see that the average is 6'1" 293lbs. Donald was 288lbs at the Senior Bowl weigh in and 1/8" shy of 6'1"......1/8" That's like the thickness of your house key. His college tape should be enough, but if not, look at senior bowl week. Donald took on double teams in practice all week and destroyed guys that outweighed him by 50lbs.Size is perceived issue by those who put too much emphasis on it, but it's not an actually issue. never has been for Donald. For those who can't understand what an advantage it is to have two DTs that pass rush very well....I don't really know what to say. It shouldn't really need to be explained.
You line up in the under alignment so that you free your 3 technique up and dont need 2 pass rushing tackles.Nose tackle is terrible value in round one. This shouldn't have to be explained every year.

every year you fall in love with a few players and try to hype them up to the 10th degree lol.. Donald is good but i doubt that he will destroy OLs in the NFL the way he did in college. leave Spence alone because he's young and has a bright future in front of him. let the damn develop before you start ruling him out as core player.
Dololris...you think guys like Miller and Spence are drawing double teams? McCoy is getting the double teams bro. Who you gonna double if Donald is next to McCoy?

I'm not overhyping anyone. Donald's tape speaks for itself. He didn't win every award Suh did just because. He's legit. And I'm not hating on Spence. Spence is the only player I even like from last years' draft. He's a good rotational player and I hope he doesn't make a habit of speeding with drugs in his car cause I'd like to see him stick around.
Spence draws the double because he lines up directly in the center's grill , engages him , and forces the double. That's how the under alignment works. That's why the 3 technique is your playmaking pass rusher and nose tackle is not a high value position .Learn football and then come back , Jdud.

He's right. The central concept of the under formation is you stick your NT right in between the C and G and your UT between the other G and T. It's virtually impossible for the C to get to the UT. He's too far away.
