The Bucs fire Bowles. You are the candidate interviewing for the HC job. The Glazers say to you that LVD just said he wants to come back so you have to agree he is your starting MLB in 2026.
How do you respond?
of course, he is a leader and even though he dropped off, we need to draft a guy anyway to put Dennis' ass on the bench.
It'll be a situation where you need to add sure fire starter and a fringe starter so if David gets worse next year, he becomes more of a JPP type leader role halfway through the year
but again, it's not like we have any talent at that position to begin with so all for David being in the fold, even though he's not good anymore.

Just make him an assistant LB coach. The dude is toast

I hate to say it but I think the best approach is maybe just not re-sign Lavonte in the offseason. After everything his salary for last year was 10 million. I think given the fact that Jed likely be a rotational piece next year that number is just too high, especially since we only have 36 million in cap currently. I know the cap can be massaged to open up more cap space, but I just feel like that money could be better spent elsewhere on the roster.. I’d love to see him decide that he was going to ride off in the sunset as a Buc, but in this case he might need that nudge the same way DB55 did, which sux because I love Lavonte, and appreciate everything he’s done for this franchise and community.

I think he retires but you're comment is right on point with larger point I have been making is that any candidate for the new HC role would be faced with some challenges because, like it or not, the team is in transition with several keystone players.
i don't think many HC candidates would want to have LVD as sort of the owner-mandated MLB and even less woukd want to start their tenure as the HC who benched LVD.

Amen
this is one thing that makes all team sports tough. LVD definitely earned the right to go out on his own terms but if you're trying to field a winning team and he wants to be a big part, what do you do?

Fortunately, I don’t think they’ll need to make that decision.
Would’ve loved for him to have been a one-year mentor for a guy like Schwesinger this past season.

That certanly would have been an ideal scenario...It's never a negative to have a consumate pro show a rookie the ropes. LB while yes there is definitely some nuance nuauce (especially in Bowles scheme ) it's mainly going out being smart, while also being a heat seeking mistle that they can use their speed to put them in good position to make a play provided they are solid at wrap up tackling. What I really want to see is Evans mentor a young big bodied reciever and show him the way and what he has learned over the years, and what was passed down to him by Vincent Jackson during Evans rookie year...

That is part of the impetus for this thread.
Together Jackson and Evans had a great year in 2014 but then 15 and 16 Jackson age caught VJ, two injury impacted seasons, a change of coach and QB .. and he was done. But part of his legacy will always be whatever he passed on to Evans. Evans credits him directly in the Amazon show.

just watched the last part a few nights ago..it was really well done ! But yea going back I think of the time Mike Williams and Benn spent here and how it wasn’t really till VJ came along that an air of professionalism entered the WR room. The obviously continued with Evans, and while it’ll continue with Godwin and hopefully Evan’s for the next few years, it would be nice to have his heir apparent waiting in the wings, since there’s things that Godwin and Ebuka just can’t teach a bigger framed WR
Evans must be retiring now, right?
Evans must be retiring now, right?
possibly. it might hinge on the OC hire whether he wants to put his body through the pain of another middling season
like a hire like McDaniel or McCarthy as OC and that might entice Evans to come back
but we get some no name OC coupled with Bowles doubling down on calling the defense and yeah not as slam dunk as you think Mike returns.
Evans must be retiring now, right?
I'm leaning toward him playing
Well, i think there were a couple posts here suggesting he would wait to see if Bowles was back . . so . .
If you take all the external factors away he's definitely playing if you listen to him.
Remember when Bowles was to blame for letting Evans injure his hamstring? lmao
"It seems Evans was possessed with getting on the field and getting the Bucs over the hump. McClendon described Evans as pressing folks at One Buc Palace to expedite doctors clearing him to play earlier than expected.
“Nothing surprised you when it comes to [Evans] just because he’s wired the right way and he’s the person he is and he worked his tail off to get back. He really, really did, man,” McClendon said. “I mean, every step of the way he was like, ‘Hey, you know, I’m coming back here, here, here’ and then actually came back a little bit ahead of schedule. And he was kind of pushing them to get the doctor visits and everything else moved up so he can go ahead and then get cleared early. I mean, he was really, really motivated to come out there and help us try to make this playoff run.”

Do you think Evans is the first player ever to demand to play when he shouldn't? It's his job to want to play and it's the training staff's job and coaches job to tell him to wait.
We didn't need to beat the ravens... We needed to beat the falcons in a divisional game.
And the main grievance from that game is OBVIOUSLY Godwin not Evans
