So you're banking on Mike Evans being one of the best WR's of all time like Calvin and Andre Johnson
We have two guys who can't create separation. Why use a 1st round pick on another one
When you have WRs whose size creates mismatches at the point of attack, they don't need as much separation. How many times do you see Dez Bryant, Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson or Brandon Marshall wide open (w/o blown coverage)? Not very often...bc these receivers don't have the speed to burn defensive backs. Their value is going up to get the ball in a crowd....when you have a 6'5" WR against a 5'10" DB, the QB just has to trust his WR & throw the ball to its highest point.Want a PERFECT example? Look at Josh McCown this year.....a 34 yr old has-been who shined with 2 big-body WRs. For those of you who watched any Bears games this year with McCown under center, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Every single game, Marshall and Jeffery made plays on balls that a smaller receiver wouldn't have had a chance on....due mainly to their size difference against the DB covering them. Now from you statement of "2" WRs, I imagine you're talking about Vjax & MW. Well, Vincent still got his this year.....Williams (even when not hurt) is a different story bc he doesn't have the 3-4" in height that an Evans/Jackson combo would have.
The QB drops back and sees his recievers are well covered, thats simply not a good thing esspecially for a young QB. Thats exactly why Dez has some games where he gets very little targets. As far as Brandon Marshall goes, well first off Evans is no Marshal, and second Marshalls most productive seasons are soley with Cutler. Cutler throws to him whether hes covered or not because he trusts him and they have great chemistry. With Calvin Johnson youre just wrong, he is blazing fast and has had sub 4.4 speed his whole career and he's even taller than the rest of them. Andre Johnson also had speed to burn everyone most of his career and he's huge at the same time. Even if you were correct on those guys the bottom line is there may be exception but its not good for the QB to drop back and have 3 receivers well covered. Esspecially in this new Tedford offense where it looks like its heavy on the shorter and quicker routes.
Yes, AJ & Calvin were fast early in their career, but injuries have slowed them. The reason they can still produce is because of their size. That is the point I was trying to make. I'm not saying Mike Evans is or ever will be one of the best WRs in the game, but he has the physical characteristics to excel at the next level. Much more so than a guy that just has speed (see Darrius Heyward-Bey).Your other point about both WRs being covered all the time only means that the slot receiver, TE (or TEs) & possibly a RB out of the backfield should have much more room to operate & get open. It will up to the QB to find the open receiver during his reads.
I'm not sure we pull the trigger on Evans. I would love to get Edelman. He is a free agent this year.

I'm not sure about this. Having a WR not being able to separate and get open doesn't necessarily equate to other receivers getting open or even having more room to operate. IMO, room to operate depends on play calling.

We didn't need him because Dom got us Kevin Ovaltine instead.I'd like Edelman, or Watkins or Benjamin in the draft. Not too high on Evans
Doubt Benjamin declares this year if so man go get his ass!!!
yes lets do this. more receivers without speed please!!
Anyone who watched the Bears this year and doesn't want another big target to pair with VJax must be smoking some kill chronic.
Benjamin I like better but haven't seen enough film of either yet. Just sign me up for a 6'5" WR and Eric Ebron. Go ahead and take measurements for all of the crowns we are going to need.
Evans and Jackson remind me of Marshall and Jeffrey. ;)and I wouldn't be upset with Watkins either.
Ditto. Evans has a nasty attitude which I really like in a big receiver. Once VJ shows him the ropes by game 7 this guy will be a terror on the field.I hope we can get him in the 2nd round. I hope, I hope, I hope.
