Lol
We were dead last in the NFL in both passing yards per game and average yards per attempt. How can anyone claim that the quarterback who started 13 of those games had a good season?
Depends which side of the coin your on.A. Glennon was in a run first offense that often ran with minimal success putting him in low percentage 3rd and long. Glennon was in a vertical passing game with slow developing routes and receivers who couldn't seperate. Glennon had a #1 who made plays and dropped a lot of easy catches, no #2, no slot and a URFA TE. Glennon had terrible coaching and a scheme that wouldn't work well with Aaron Rogers using it. Or.B. Great QBs overcome everything and he didn't so he's not worth trying to develop. The whole conversation is just idiotic. There have been maybe 2 rookie QBs in the history of the NFL who could win and play well with no help. That's it. RGIII and Russell Wilson played well as rookies but had really good running games and Wilson has had the best defense in the league since he was drafted. Mike needs help and the idea is he'll need less help as he improves. All of Mike's numbers, if that's what your using to determine how good he is, were hurt by the terrible team and coaching he had. Bad schemes, bad game planning and bad playcalling all tilted the table against the rookie off the bat.Make your own decisions on the kid, I think we'll give him a second shot which is something that few can argue he hasn't earned.
I am confident that with a NFL average #2 WR, pass pro and slot WR that Glennon could put up more yardage. The question I have with Glennon is can he make the hot reads to make teams pay for sending pressure? This to me is a huge question mark and why his performance in the second half of games falter (along with mechanical breakdowns that effect his accuracy).
Glennon was graded at a 4.2 in the last game. I believe the fact that he did make several hot reads and throws behind pressure and that was a big part of the reason he graded out the best game all year. That was my big concern with him. If you can't identify a blitz and throw behind it, your in trouble. Especially when your QB rating under pressure falls of the kitchen table.Again let's be fair. 5 and 7 step drops against teams like the 49ers or Panthers is not a plan for success for anyone. I hope our new OC develops a better quick passing game.

Glennon is a legitimately curious case. All of his numbers say he had a pretty bad season except he was somehow pretty good at throwing touchdowns and not throwing interceptions.

More than this he wasn't a notorious dink n' dunker as people say. His % of attempts under 10 yards was the in the same range, and lower in some cases, than Luck, Rodgers or Brady. Brady did dink n' dunk this year but Luck and Rodgers aren't. Frankly, they were all about the same. In the 21, 31 and 41 ranges his YPA are similar to those 3 guys so he wasn't falling short on YPA downfield. Where he had the greatest variance with the good QB's was that under 10 yards and behind the LoS his YPA (similar completion % BTW for those who are doing the math) was 2 or more yards less than those other QB's. Basically, the short passing game was what let Glennon down last year not the intermediate or deep.
You are right Vin. Why do I keep clicking the "Show me the post." link on your posts? I might really be stupid.
oh boy . . okay, let's take it slow1. JDub argues "Glennon sucks . . his low YPG is proof"2. Logic says IF "low YPG=suck" THEN "high YPG = good"3. BUT . . . Ryan has "high YPG" and yet equal W/L record to "low YPG Glennon". In a QB-driven league where QB is king, low YPG and high YPG should not have identical record4. CONCLUSION: stat does not tell us what JDub thinks it does In a QB-driven league, where QB is key to success if "low YPG=suck" and "high YPG=great" then the records would not be equal. Any stat is isolation is close to useless JDub. The even bigger point though -- and where the hypocrisy arrives for JDub --- is that Ryan has "High YPG" but equal record to Glennon because there are EXTERNAL factors at play (53 guys, not 1) . .. when discussing Glennon though JDub says those external factors are "excuses" (i.e., they are "irrelevant). It adds up to nothing that the O-line sucks, rookie, no running attack, bad coaching . . Glennon is what he is NOW and he sucks because he has low YPG . . . Ryan does not suck despite having identicla record to Glennon because "Atlanta had no running attack" . . . and Ryan has . . . wait for it . . . a track record . . . . a track record . . . but Glennon doesnt get the track record or the external considerations before we pronounce that he sucks . . . as a rookie . . . . . because of low YPG
Your whole thesis is based on the premise that everything else is equal (or close enough to be irrelevant) when it clearly is not. Also, nfl.com has the Falcons 7th in yards per game passing. Of the top 10 teams in that category, seven found their way into the playoffs. So it's not a bad indication of "good".
There isn't a whole lot of logic being applied by the good Counselor. Emotions run rampant and piss poor arguments follow.

Some people on this board said Freeman's 2010 season was a fluke because we played bad teams with bad passing defense. Does that make Glennon's season better because he played a lot of really good teams with good passing defense? It should also be noted that the end of the year, when he supposedly regressed were against better teams with better pass defense.

I don't think it's quite accurate to say Freeman feasted on bad pass defenses in 2010. The 2010 season wasn't defined by playing bad defenses. The 2010 season was defined by playing bad QBs, which allowed the Bucs' bad defense to not give games away. The Bucs beat the Panthers twice and they had the #11 pass defense. The Saints had the #4 pass defense and the Bengals were #14.
Josh Freeman was good. Then he lost weight and later we found out he probably had drug problems. Is that a coincidence? I don't know. A mentally healthy Josh Freeman was pretty good. If Freeman were mentally healthy and put in the time and effort he would have reached the potential everyone thought he had. Instead he had mental issues that have pretty much ended his career.

Well say what you want. One had an easy schedule and one had a very difficult and this fan base is unable to see how any of that matters in either case.
