I've seen a lot of people here and members of the media talk about how the new Bucs coach Lovie Smith will bring in the Tampa Two defense to be the primary defense in Tampa. Many people think that because that is the defense he learned in Tampa, brought to St. Louis, and used a good amount in Chicago. What people don't realized however, is that the primary coverage used by Lovie during his last few years in Chicago was Cover 1 which is a form of man coverage. Think about how we all started hearing about Tillman and Jennings at corner. The bottom line is that Lovie designed a defense to fit his players in Chicago. Here is a tweet from a former player who is now a sports writer and a guy who follows the Bears heavily. @MattBowen41 #Bucs will play much faster on D under Lovie Smith + they have the talent to produce...Look for Cover 1, 3, zone/man-pressure & 2-Deep.Sure the Bucs will play Cover 2 and Tampa 2 at times, like every other defense in football, but there are NO teams in the NFL that play primarily Tampa 2 anymore. Lovie and Marinelli will design a defense to fit the players they have which is **CENSORED**ing awesome. Steve White, a guy that many of us here greatly respect as a writer and former player, said that if this team had had Lovie and Marinelli this past year they would have been a top five defense. And he just tweeted this. @sgw94: Read: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "TAMPA 2" COACH. NOOOOOOBODY CALLS TAMPA 2 ALL THE DAMN TIME. ALMOST EVERYBODY CALLS IT SOME OF THE TIMEThere was so much wasted talent on this team. You guys think McCoy looked good? Sheridan wasted him frequently. People are worried that there is no place for Revis. There absolutely will be. As Matt Bowen said, look for Cover 1, 3, and 2-Deep coverage. Revis will ball here. The only question is whether a new GM would want to pay him that money, but if he is here, he will lock it down.I am predicting, actually guaranteeing, this will be a top five defense next year. I can't **CENSORED**ing wait.
Thats all that I ask for, a coach that fits his scheme to his players, and doesn't go out and try to find players to fit a different scheme.
Thanks for the info
Sounds like we've just made massive improvements without adding a single player
off-season champs... again
Lovie didn't run a pure cover 2 in CHI, hell WE never ran a pure cover 2 and were a cover 3 team by the end. As someone said, the Tampa 2 is a play not a scheme. What matters to me is that we get a 43 because of our player AND we get a one gap upfield rush system.

You don't want a 46 Dalbuc? ;)

I like running a Nickle 3-3-5 and having me DEs cover receivers while my corners cover the line of scrimmage and my LBs rush the QB under my one DT running an outside stunt. It's genius!
...so no more AC in coverage, McCoy dropping back, and DTN in the game?

I think Adrian Clayborn gets moved to DB full time. Clayborn Island. It's a small island... but it's still an island.

It's more of a sandbar.
I'm making a point to stay objective this year. Glennon is going to be a pro bowler next year but other than him, everyone else has to prove to me that Schiano was really the reason we stunk.

That was part of the plan! The beauty of a sandbar is that you aren't sure exactly where it is. You have a general idea, but you don't know for sure.
