Harbaugh is finalizing a deal with the Giants. Reports are saying Monken will be joining him.

This is great news from where I sit.  He has had the best QB in the league for the past three seasons and can’t move the needle.

I know many are in favor of him but if we are going coordinator and not head coach, he’s not a great decision IMO.  We need a young play caller who relates to our super young offense.

Monken didn't come here because he would have more job security under Harbaugh.  Lets be honest McDaniel is probably not coming here either.  He's doing interviews because he needs bargaining power, not because he's coming here under a hotseat coach.  We're not giving McDaniel a long term contract with a short term coach.   We're not promising him a future HC position or giving out a long term OC contract with a short term HC situation- not for McDaniel. He's not that special.   Bowles's is the hottest hotseat in the league. The only reason McDaniel become the Bucs OC is if there were no other offers.

So the upshot is McDaniel is not coming here

hotseat coach.

So you aren’t going to bet on yourself if you are a young/good OC with some of the best talent in the league?  I think any job any OC would take would have an element of risk to it.  That’s the nature of today’s NFL.  Mike McDanial will objectively look at all the jobs and make a decision on the talent on the roster.  Tampa will be towards the top of that list on his evaluation.

Tampa is a great situation for any OC. Talented roster Evans Godwin egbuka mcmillan Bucky white and a solid Line.

with a good staff in place so you don’t have to look far if you don’t have your guys. Let’s say you go to any of the other OC spots do they have as much talent and is the schedule as easy.

win the south and win a playoff game and you’re in HC talks as history has foretold, with owners who are willing to pay make you the highest paid OC

The Bucs could fire Bowles if they don't win the division, and the division is getting tougher.

The hotseat matters.  The Bucs won't promise McDaniel to be a HC in waiting.  They won't force a future coach to accept an existing OC.  It could be one and done for McDaniel regardless of the job he does. If you go into a new place you know there's a transition period and he wouldn't have any transition time.  He has a six year old daughter.  Does he want to take his family on a one year pit stop?

Don't get me wrong I'd love to have McDaniel be our OC, but just use some objective common sense.  This isn't a good situation for him when he's going to have choices.

Perhaps somebody like Kafka or Robinson who aren't in as much demand will be the type of guy who will be in play.   Somebody who just wants an opportunity. I think they'll really try to get an experienced playcaller because they can't take the risk of another guy learning on the job.

If they convince McDaniel to be OC they should be applauded

What kind of contract do you think he's going to get?  They're giving Bowles another year to get things straightened out.  They won't force a new coach to accept the old OC if he can't get it straightened out.  So tell me what kind of deal do you think they'll offer McDaniel when they can't guarantee him for more than a year?

He made around 3.5m+ a year in Miami as he was a relative unknown. I think coen was offered around 5m/y.

we paid Mike smith guesstimating around 3m a year when we had koetter when he got his extension as the highest paid DC.

I think we’ll pay McDaniel around the 2.5-3m 3 year mark for the OC we want. If he’s our guy he knows we will pay to get our guy.

best scenario for any OC, as you also have Bowles who’s will generally let the OC control the offense if they’re experienced

McDaniel leverage is he’s a hot commodity vying for a HC role and many OC roles but it’s a negotiation game. It doesn’t surprise me he has us lined up last. As long as he interviews well he probably stays here

let’s break it down the available HC jobs McDaniel has interviewed for.

titans - afc south Texans colts jags. Weak core offensive roster - cam ward

browns - afc north ravens Steelers bengals tough defenses

decent core offense Shedeur qb1

ravens - afc north Lamar qb 1 decent offensive core zay flowers Henry

falcons - nfc south good core offense penix

lions - nfc north offensive HC good core offense Goff

eagles - nfc east offensive HC good core offense hurts

the most attractive offer is falcons HC or Bucs OC job just the fact that success is more likely and your offense will get to do whatever they want in a weak division. If you’re going into any of those HC positions in the AFC it’s gonna just be tough sledding as he’s known. He was 3-1 vs th south last year losing to the panthers 24-27 and lost to the afc north 0-4

Excuse the typos on my phone

According to who?

Harbaugh's playoff record before Lamar: 8-4

Harbaugh's playoff record after Lamar: 3-6

It's weird...

He's not , Mariucci, Gruden, Arians, Tomlin, Harbaugh, or Lombardi.  He's just McDaniel.  Sure he'd be great to have as an OC, but they can't give him the keys to the store.  It's just according to common sense.

If the Bucs plan is to promise McDaniel a future HC gig…it’s silly. McDaniel can easily make that happen by becoming the Detroit Lions OC and waiting for when Todd Bowles retires/gets fired. McDaniel will once again be a hot HC commodity for a good team.

While I would really like McDaniel as the next OC, I think from a strategic standpoint, it’s more likely that McDaniel is using the Bucs as leverage for the one team (seeking a new OC) that has better current offensive and defensive talent than the Bucs - the job in Detroit.

I don’t think he’s waiting for the right team, I think he’s negotiating.
