Tedford is a meh tag along. But he isn't a Buc problem. Yet.
hmmm.....what happened to his offense during 2010-2012 which led to his firing? Was it program-based that he didn't get the caliber players to succeed in his system? And if so - why did he not adjust the system to match the player strenghts?thats my thing regardless of who comes in, they need to be able to adjust their system to match the players strength, and obviously effective management and playcalling come game day. we can't have another coach dead set in their ways.
I'd say that it was more a recruiting thing than anything. Cal went 1-11 this season, worse than it ever did under Tedford. Cal isn't an easy place to recruit, with the academic requirements and all. That, plus the rise of Stanford probably hurt recruiting. Good thing we won't need him to recruit for us.
One more thing. People focus on Tedford as a so-called QB guru, but what he is a 100% bonafide guru on is running backs. His backs put Alabama's, Texas', and every other power school's backs to shame with much less resources. He's a great running game coach and teaches his backs to play in the pass game. While we all know you don't actually win in the NFL with running, having a creative, productive running game sure beats slamming your back up the gut for two yards on every play.
Just think a screen game... That works and is well executed... I cannot remember the last time...

My leg just got a tingle like Chris Matthews watching an Obama press conference...

ArringtonMarshawn LynchJustin ForsettJahvid BestShane VereenNot to mention..DeSean JacksonKeenan AllenMarvin JonesHe gets Kyle Boller held against him, who wasn't even his recruit, but doesn't get credit for Aaron Rodgers, who was. He put almost every RB he coached at Cal in the NFL. The WR's he's put in the NFL all seemed to have a relatively short learning curve. Tedford is legit. I'd be happy with the hire.
Hearing Tedford would be coming with Lovie definitely makes me feel better about that scenario. Tedford is a really, really good offensive mind who will fit a scheme around the players he's given.
I'm not sold on Tedford, but I have to be honest, up until today all my knowledge of the guy could be summed up with the words "don't draft one of his QBs"
He is an out of left field guy but at least he's not a Ron Turner type guy that Lovie is gonna drag along. Whatever Tedford might be the pros his name being dropped at least shows Lovie's heart is in the right place in terms of reforming.
I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're saying or not, but what I like is Lovie and Tedford have no past history together that I know of. It's not like he's "getting the band back together" like Kiffin and Marinelli, Fisher and Gregg Williams, and other coaches trying to recreate past magic. I'd assume Lovie and Tedford met at some sort of unemployed coaching function and hit it off.
General Manager: Eric StokesHead Coach: Lovie SmithOffensive Coordinator: Jeff Tedford (longshot, but I'd like to see it)
Muhahahahha!!!

Pretty much. I mean this isn't a Ron Turner type retread or the old RB coach for the Bears who ever the heck that was. This is a "fresh" name for Lovie. It also a guy who has a reputation for being creative and dynamic on offense so this isn't like he got "creative" and went after the OC at Wisconsin who runs a dead dull offense.
