Suh, Vea, Gholston versus Hall, Clancy, Vea, Gaines - i think this is one with potential but need to see Clancy and Hall in action to seeif they can overtake the steady vets)
Could be wrong, but going off memory HOFer Warren Sapp had maybe a handful of sacks his first season? And maybe didn't even start all the games? Not sure
If you look at HOFer Brooks, probably similar?
again just going of shaky memory lol, LVD actually came out on fire but that made him a ROY candidate (i.e., an exception to the rule)?
My point is that most (not all) defensive players, including 1st round picks, take some time to produce like established vets, let alone how they might produce in their prime professional years down the road SO most times you'd be safe to say that a bigtime pick on the DL or defense is a short term setback for long term gain.
Let's compare our 2021 starters to 2023 starters and see which team had the edge
Umm...I don't think anyone is arguing that 2023 is better.
Lol.
@donkey_hunter I, but we’re faster. Many of are then younger guys have developed nicely (some haven’t). But no it’s a step back from the veteran laden 2021 team, BUT I think this team is better than the 2022 squad

overall, starter and depth wise, what position group are we better than last year ?

not one, at least if the answer excludes “potential”
I hope we have a better running game
we put a lot into pass rush but it usually takes rookies a while
LVD a year older rookies on line making mistakes in front of them
Godwin will be healthier and TEs more experience but a lesser QB throwing the ball
well potentially speaking, I think the o-line and running game will be better. I don't think we'll miss Donovan Smith or Fournette.@donkey_hunter I, but we’re faster. The D-line/ pass rush will be better because Hicks only played 10 games. kancey will be good. Yes its potential. The future usually is.
Most worrisome to me - how effective Shaq barrett will be. Not sold that he'll be 100%.
Most hopeful to me - I think the O-line will be surprisingly effective for multiple reasons. I think they have experienced players except for Mauch. I think the design of the offense and mobility of the QB will help as well.
I agree that the O-line may be effective just on new scheme and certainly the Bucs have potential
As a position group, the weakest IMO is the TE room. Ko Kieft is a blocker. Durham is a 5th round pick who some people seem to be fine with. That leaves 2nd year player Otton as the one dependable TE. If Durham beat out the veterans in training camp then fine, but he has been annointed the #2 TE from the start apparently. That's why I don't think the Bucs are done. They will bring in a legitimate veteran to compete for a spot IMO.
I was impressed with Otton's play last season. He should be even better this year.
I agree about Otton, but it's Durham I have a question about. He's a 5th round draft pick. Usually 5th rounders aren't even guaranteed to make the team, but people seem to be confident he can just be handed an important role on the team before training camp even starts.I was impressed with Otton's play last season. He should be even better this year.
Otton is a decent TE and should be better this year. He’s just not a game changer
How many TEs are true game-changers? Maybe 3-4? Kelce, Andrews, Kittle, Goedert, this list gets very thin after the top 3 or 4. Some others flash here and there, but aren't consistent game-changers. I used to play fantasy football on Fan Duel and TE was difficult to pick because there were so few dependable TEs to get you significant points, and the ones that got you points were too expensive and made your other roster choices more difficult.
Yes I agree. Not many are game changers.
If you have one though his impact on the offense exceeds his own stats.
Gronk was always a TD threat, always a chain mover, a top notch blocker AND his underneath presence on the field (especially with Godwin) made it impossible for defenses to do to us what every defense (except Panthers second game) did to us last season.
obviously HOFers don’t grow on trees lol
Yes, Gronk was a huge part of why the offense under Brady was so successful for two seasons. Difficult to replace a player like him, you essentially can't unless you trip on a player like the top 4 above. His absence was a major part of the 10 pt per game drop off last season. And Lefty taking a stupid pill.
