gregg rosenthal ?@greggrosenthal Teams often choose opposite of coach they just fired. Lovie: The anti-Schiano.
Oh Gregggggg....can't even get that right. Not really the anti-schiano at all. Not all that similar to Schiano, but that's mainly because there's nobody on the planet that's similar to Schiano.
This tedford guy is the same that developed dilfer, pittman, and Rodgers right?
Akili as well (I believe). Ugh!
How is that ugh? He turned those guys into high draft picks even when they shouldn't have been.
If Lovie hires Frazier as DC n we can land Allen from Vikes in free agency think we go offense our first 2 picks?

Don't see why not.

Anybody that can make Akili Smith a top draft pick must be a helluva offensive mind.
I have argued that merit for Tedford. But his guys do not translate to the NFL game for some reason. Not all of them do.I am willing to see what he has to offer. He has a college resume, and we know how that works.
So basically, getting a guy into the PROs, based on collegiate accolades is fine and dandy. But do his guys go on to have good careers? Or is college level coaching Tedfords ceiling?
Full of Yuck. Don't like this move at all.

Well, he coached Aaron Rodgers.

I know. That is his saving grace. Sort of like, how Schiano was friends with Bellicheat... :PI cannot see Tedford turning Glennon into a Pro Bowler any time soon. I have poked fun of Tedford years ago. Never been much of a fan, I am aware of his QB guru status. Have been. Just not completely sold on him running the offense in Tampa, for whatever reason He has no track record...it makes me itchy.

... and Kyle Boller . So what. All you are saying is he developed a lot of guys into 1st round QB's ......problem ??
Interesting hire. Seems like the Glazers are trying to recapture the past. Lovie only made the playoffs once in his last six seasons in Chicago.
There's always a debbie downer in the crowd. But, before we spew out random facts maybe you should look at what caused that? So how did Lovie, with what is universally considered a massive talent deficit, continue to field a team that was constantly competing for the playoffs throughout his ENTIRE tenure? Let's look at some of the player development first, 4th round throwaway pick Henry Melton who seemingly played everything at Texas but DT, develops into one of the 3 premier 4-3 interior pass rushers, and perhaps the best run stopping 4-3 DT. Danieal Manning leaves the Bears on $36M deal as a safety, Chris Harris became one of the best SS in the game, was traded, then comes back and is selected as an all pro FS. Charles Tillman quietly produces 80+ takeaways over a 10 year career. Let's look at some of the decline, Major Wright goes from a borderline probowler to PFFs worst safety in the league. Conte goes from solid starter to the PFFs 3rd worst safety. For crying out loud the defense went for #3 in scoring defense and #5 in total defense, to a bottom 3 unit in both categories, and a historically bad run defense in the pass first NFL of today. And Smith is just mediocre? 2, just 2 losing seasons (7-9) in the 8 years following Smith's first year without players that fit his scheme and the clown car of QBs.
A few points on the other side though too. I live 2 hrs west of Chicago so have seen plenty of Bears games and watched Lovie for years. He stubbornly stuck with an archaic offensive philosophy including Rex Grossman as QB. His OCs included Terry Shay, John Shoop, Mike Martz and Mike Tice. He approved trying to turn Devin Hester into a No. 1 WR. Runs the Tampa 2 defense but Revis is best in man to man. With that defense, he should've won a Super Bowl but lack of offense prevented that. I do like the hire, just hope he fixes offensive shortcomings.
Go read that ESPN story on Lovie I posted on page 2 or so. Lovie admits his mistakes with the offense and plans to take a very different approach.
I just went through that article and I don't see where he says anything about a different approach, or offense at all for that matter.
Maybe the problem was that Tedford wasn't coaching those guys in the pros
No. I understand he is a guru of QBs, and have been aware for many many years.I just think his product doesn't really (generally speaking) go on to work wonders in the NFL. And he has no track record as a coordinator in the professional ranks, so it makes me edgy. Pairing that enigma up with Lovie (who is no offensive guru at all) might be a critical failure of this teams development. I am not opposed. Just not all aboard with it.Hold that ball up by your ear hole kid!
I thought the same thing Doc. Kept looking for it, but never saw him discuss it.
