To be fair teams like Baltimore Pittsburgh and buffalo likely questioning if they should make a change at head coach

Tomlin and Bowles are a comparison I’ve been coming to over the past few weeks.  Both have potential to go to the playoffs on a yearly basis, but generally a yearly early round exit baring a high octane offense.

Also lucky that the Bengals and browns usually find a way to f things up for themselves. We have it better with 3 teams right now that suck.

Yes that is one reason I have said that Bowles is a good coach for now (when the team is rebuilding and has to rely on young guys, as one example). That does not mean he is a good coach for the next level. He's done a good job through a rebuild and kept the team relevant but that only goes so far. The Glazers are probably more inclined to go with a good coach then to fire a good coach in hopes of grabbing a great. They amde the ,move Dungy to Gruden, but the decade or so that followed . . .

The Glazers overrode the GM to hire Gruden, but I don't believe they'd override Licht.  I think in their eyes he's earned his stripes.  They may have a sit down with him and discuss things if things get bad.  But more likely Licht will be the one to pull the trigger on Bowles when the time comes.

It won't be easy for Licht to fire Bowles and the contract extension is the least of it.  1) He's his trusted freind.  2) It means a rebuild of the defense that Licht has put together through his own drafting in order to suit a new coach.  3)  Could also mean an offensive minded HC who would fire Griz and create another upheaval of an offense which already has the cast of characters in place.   Firing Bowles is admitting failure of the whole process which starts with Licht.

If this season continues to go down the tubes the question will be is Bowles mismanaging the players that Licht has brought him?  Has Bowles lost the team?  Would a better coach take the same group of players and do significantly better?  If so then Licht would fire Bowles.  But if it's the players who aren't doing the job - whether its injuries or just not good enough - then that's not just on Bowles.  That's on Licht.

IF  (big "if") the Bucs don't right the ship this year it will be very tough for Licht and the Glazers to get rid of Bowles.  It means big changes are ahead.  Changes Licht doesn't want to make unless it's so bad he has no choice.

I can see how you got to that conclusion, but I don’t necessarily agree…here’s why.  I feel like Bowles defense has been figured out to an extent much the way the Tampa 2 had been after it has become en vogue.  I think the fact that Tampa primarily runs a 3-4 now would make it easier to find a successful veteran defensive assistant to come and run a variation of Bowles defense…Tampa seriously needs edge, another solid tackle or 2, and some ILB.  David will likely hang em up after the season..he has to realize that while he’s giving a noble effort, that he’s become a liability in some circumstances because he can’t physically do all the things as well as he used to… as for the offense..granted its Grizz’ first year as play caller, it’s been a mixed bag up till now, but if Griz came in and lit it up ala Coen, and to lesser extend Dave Canales then the possibility that he would have bolted for a HC job at the end of the year was very real…I don’t think that’ll be the case given he hasn’t been able to run this offense the way he wanted due to injuries, but I feel that since there was a possibility that Grizz could have left had he had a stellar year kind of makes your point of a offensive minded coach getting rid of Grizz moot.

If this season continues to go down the tubes

That is certainly possible and you could even argue the team is at an inflection point, but its probably still much more likely the team gradually gets healthier, plays better and get tot the playoffs. In that scenario Bowles stays because of the impact of the injuries.
