It's not whether but when Bowles will be fired.  Leave it to the other threads to discuss the Bucs problems. It's safe to say Bowles is walking the plank. I'm all ears about when and who, but I don't think the fans on this board have really given a lot of thought about what happens after Bowles is fired if it happens midseason.  So two questions...

1) When

2) Who

1) When? My prediction is after Week 6 Steelers game.  They will be 1-5 if not 0-6. There is no reason to wait until the bye week if they are already losing every game anyway.  The front office has some pride and they aren't tanking for a draft pick.  They will just want to try to salvage some respect this season.

2) Who?  My prediction: Jim Caldwell.

You aren't going to be able to change the playbook in midseason. Just ain't gonna happen. so I'm asking you guys to be realistic about what we should do for the rest of this season.  It has to be a CEO type of interim coach to try to establish stability and respectability.  They can't fire the whole staff and slam down a new offensive playbook in the middle of the season.

Google AI:  If the front office wants to bring in an outsider to save the season without shaking up the progress Baker Mayfield has made with Zac Robinson, Caldwell provides two critical strategic advantages:
  • The Ultimate "Quarterback Whisperer" Shield: Caldwell famously guided Peyton Manning to a Super Bowl appearance and maximized Matthew Stafford's efficiency in Detroit. He commands instant respect in a quarterback room. Instead of changing Mayfield's terminology, Caldwell acts as an elite sounding board on the headset, helping Robinson adjust his protections and pass concepts between series. [1, 2]
  • The Disciplined CEO Environment: Under Todd Bowles, the Buccaneers have struggled significantly with penalties, situational clock errors, and consistency. Caldwell's head coaching track record with the Colts and Lions is defined by strict operational discipline. He would handle the press conferences, officiating disputes, and locker room structure, completely freeing up Robinson to design the offensive game plan every week.

Yes, I know we have to strip down to the nubs in the offseason, but I'm asking people to take a serious look about what we should do with the rest of this season. You can't hire assistants from other teams.  Zampese?  He'd leave the defense rudderless and would have little  effect because he's part of the current staff.  Do you really think we can ride it out with Bowles for the whole season?  I don't.  But I'm all ears if you are willing to get serious - what do we do now?
