First, I will go on record of saying I lean towards Mariota, mostly for off field issues. I have also said if they go Winston, I will support it, cause that would mean he had to checkout. This has been bothering me for a bit I have a really hard time believing Dirk Koetter, left his cozy job with Matt Ryan to take a job with a team that has a horrible OL and not knowing who the QB will be next year. There were rumors of the Falcons wanting to keep him on with a new HC. Also we were one of the first teams to fill the OC position I believe 8 other teams had openings. So he wouldn't of had a hard time finding a different and probably better gig. This may be reach but isn't more likely he was told who the pick would be? I know if I have options, I would have to know and would demand to know who the pick would be for me to take the job. I'm now assuming Koetter knows the pick and he is thinking about taking it. If Winston is the pick do you see a proven OC betting on him to stay out of trouble. I think Koetter called his friend Helfrich and got the goods on Mariota. Then Koetter took the job. Now QB coach hire is even more leaning towards Mariota and not just because of the spread. Bajakian has been with Butch Jones for 8 years as his OC and has steadily gotten raises. He is now the OC of an SEC team that looks like they have turned corner coming off a big bowl win and grooming Dobbs who looks to be a perfect fit for that offense. Again does anyone think this guy is going to throw away what he has built with Butch Jones without knowing which QB you are going to be coaching with a 2-14 NFL team. I just have a hard time believing these two coaches are willing to bet on Winston over Mariota. I will be the first to admit this all conjecture but it really has bothered me that these coaches with plenty of options would take a job without knowing who the pick would be. And yes...yes I do think the pick has been made for the most part. Things can change but I don't think this will. I'm sure some Winston fans will show me how flawed my logic is and please feel free.
