He doesn’t run as much up tempo as he used to. He’s evolved in his playcalling, which is a credit to him
Several in house candidates Thad lewis Josh grizzard along with carberry.
Oregon OC will stein would be nice too reunite him with Bucky

Of the in house candidates wouldn’t it have to be Lewis?
Arians hand picked OC of the future and I think he has play calling experience. Keep the other guys in their roles
I think Lewis is a legit candidate, but Arians & Coen/McVay aren’t really similar offenses at all. That’s why I think Grizzard is also in the mix. May need to be able to build off of the concepts Coen used - but that doesn’t mean Thad didn’t pick anything up. So it’s going to be interesting to see what we end up doing.
it’s also why I like the idea of Jake Peetz - although we’ve all heard Coen wants to interview him for his OC. Lots of choices.
As a Buckeye fan, I’m not a big proponent of Chip Kelly as OC. He infuriated me the way he stubbornly stayed too long trying to blast TTUN with a run game that wasn’t working, especially with a team that was built on the perimeter attack - he can do it. - just think he would align too much with Bowles conservative preferences…
Then again, I’ve never been a fan of Chip Kelly.
In one sense, I like the change at OC, Coen’s scheme tendencies will go out the window. There will be a new approach, while building off of things that worked. I like Grizzard’s 3rd down passing concepts, one of the best in the league.
Lots of options, but I’m sure the focus is on getting the right match. Really think the preference will be on internal candidates. To me, Lewis & Grizzard make the most sense, not sexy, not a lot of playcalling experience - but the last two OC’s didn’t have a lot of that anyway.
Would have preferred heading into a season with the same offense, called by the same guy - but that’s isn’t our path. So far, Bowles is 2 for 2 on OC’s without playcalling experience - have to move forward.
Also, I have to wonder if the reason for the Bucs ire regarding the loss of Coen is more angled toward potentially losing one of our assistant GM’s to Jax as GM candidate search as well?

I think it's solely because of the way he handled it.
@donkey_hunter I’m sure that’s true, but the level was so high - lots of smoke, but there was some fire in their reaction as well. Makes me think a message may have been/being delivered internally, too.
Don’t think Coen will have control over who his GM will be, but he will have influence - and he was really close to some in this organization.
Re: GM for Jags
Anything is possible with $$, as we have seen but I think Khan is seen as part of the dysfunction there and on top of that hoe good is the job when it’s tied to a one year OC hired to HC a mess of a team? Coen may turn out up be the missing piece for the Jags but he could also fail spectacularly because there is a lot to turning that ship back around
Incidentally I sort of adopted the Darlington suggestion that the Bucs might have fired Bowles to make Coen HC given the opportunity.
head to head Coen doesn’t take the Jags HC job over Bucs HC because the Bucs have very successful infrastructure in place and the Jags do NOT, even with Baalke gone.
it’s not hard to imagine the size of the task in Jax overwhelming Coen
Grizzard could work. He's young, but with Baker, Wirfs and Evans he doesn't need to have the leadership experience he might need to have if he was OC on a team with a rookie QB or WR who just got drafted out of the first round and needs a strong personality. Look you have to have a level of maturity no matter who you are coaching, but Grizzard could focus on being the play caller and let the veteran offensive leaders keep people in line.

i don't think he's ever been a play caller and thats a fairly tough thing to do
I trust that Jason will find us the right guy
I just want an OC who gets paid high and doesn't leave. I know money talks but dear lord we have a great group of talent like only top tier teams can have. We are a team that makes most lick their chops to come here. I just want someone who knows this scheme and can contribute to long term as well as keep the continuity going.
I am for hiring within but also if there is a stronger candidate just remember we could lose the coaching staff that Benedict Coen brought on board. So I know Jason Licht has a tough task on his shoulder as well as Todd Bowles. I also want a cornerbacks coach here to teach the fundamentals of causing fumbles, tackling, footwork and interceptions when possible. JMHO
