I think it's become all too hard for SR and others to acknowledge how far they overshot the landing on the DT situation...but here are the cold hard facts. IMO ;D My own personal Myth Busters, of sorts. We currently have 3 solid dedicated DTs in GMAC, Akeem Spence, and Clint Mac.We have 3 UDFAs/FA guys in Jontavius Morris, DaVonte Lambert, and Davon Colemen. Not expecting much more than a decent PS player from this list. Here is the part where it gets good...our X-factor players and the reason we probably didn't seriously consider taking "Stankin" Rankins or any other DTs are 2 very important, lineup glue type of players...I'm referring to Bob Ayers and Will Gholston. Ayers and Gholston are the backup Under Tackle everyone thinks we need. If GMAC goes down I'm confident we'd still get some push from the UT spot. That gives us 5 DT rotation guys. Their flexibility is a pivotal way we'll be A-OK at DT this season. Ideally, our D-line looks like: Smith/Spence(rotation) - McDonald - GMAC - AyersI think our D-line becomes a strength this year. Those starters above with Will Gholston, Howard Jones, TJ Fatz, Akeem Spence, George Johnson as our backups, gives us solid depth even if we lose time from the starters, due to injury. The total of those 10 players is like having 12 roster spots, giving us 7 DEs and 5 DTs.I'm not even taking into consideration the possibility of snagging a veteran cast off, which could help, but ins't necessary. I'm confident and ready to roll with the D-line Jason and the FO has assembled. I would also like to publicly declare my love for Will Gholston. We'd be very wise to not let him sniff free agency. He's only 24, has gotten better every season, and has the second highest ceiling on the D-line behind Spence. It should be a high priority to ink him to an extension this off-season. Do it, Jason!!Where we really sucked last year was coaching and secondary play. We b!tch slapped both issues in the off-season and are headed toward a much improved team for seasons to come. Last year, there were countless times where we got quick pressure only to see a quick pass beat our D that refused to sit on/stop the slant pass, all damn year. Man coverage and aggressive play calling will do wonders for our improved D-line. Oh yeah, did I mention we're decent on offense? The second year leap for Jameis and the Offense will sustain more drives, leading to more chances to rush the passer. Having a lead and releasing our line to pin back their ears and go hunt is something I've sorely missed. I'm rambling, point is we freakin' nailed this off-season and I'm stoked beyond measure to be a team making noise next season. 8)
