Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman recently called Greg Hardy "part of the puzzle" for a team coming off its first winning season since 2008.The heat-seeking pass rusher is seen by many as a no-brainer target for the franchise tag, but the Panthers haven't given up on signing him to a long-term deal.Joseph Person of The Charlotte Observer reported Thursday that Carolina remains "in discussions" with Hardy and recently met with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to continue negotiations. Hardy told Around the League during Super Bowl Week that he's looking for a "crapload of money" after piling up 26 sacks over the past two seasons.Gettleman reminded reporters at the combine that Carolina is "cap-strapped" and unable to pay everyone from a roster that won the NFC South last season. As a result, Person notes that the Panthers are expected to let both receiver Brandon LaFell and cornerback Captain Munnerlyn test the market. Gettleman won't let Hardy get that far. While the Panthers already have the league's fourth-highest-paid defensive end in Charles Johnson, teams don't usually part ways with ascendant pass rushers. If a new deal can't be worked out by Monday's deadline, look for Hardy to be franchised. The latest edition of the "Around The League Podcast" discusses the top 101 free agents and forecasts the offseasons of the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs.

Well, there goes that dream. Guess we'll have to overpay for some player who is past their prime.

What would you know about a prime? You never had one.

Yeah that's it. It's not that you're being negative before the Bucs even enter negotiations with a player who could be a major upgrade over what we have. Nah. I mean why would a Bucs fan say anything positive about the Bucs? Just be negative. It's more fun!

I'm not trying to be negative about the Bucs, tough guy. Im being negative about one of the best FA DEs being removed from the market. But thanks for playing. ...And by the way, I am one of the most positive posters on here when it comes to the Bucs. Before you continue posting on these boards (or any board) I suggest that you develop a few things. First, know who you are talking to before spouting off. Second, comprehend what someone is actually talking about before insulting them. And lastly, refrain from the use of tough guy comments over the internet. Good day.

LaFell would be a nice value signing. He's a good #3 WR.

Lafell would be a nice #3 or #4, depending on who we draft. It looks like Hardy is coming off the market tho, too bad.

Tough guy? How cute you are! Do you have an Olivia Holt poster in your room? ''I guess we'll have to overpay for some player who is past their prime.'' That's negative on what we would pay (an imaginary number) and the player we'd get (an imaginary player) implying the Bucs will make the wrong choice when the choice itself is imaginary.Congratulations,.Then you want to manipulate things to say I'm a ''tough guy?'' You dump on the Bucs and I call you out on it and you try and pull the old switcheroo?

Agreed. It is too bad. And thanks for not dumping on the Bucs pre-emptively.

I would have accepted him, but imo, allen would be a better fa pickup. Its still not a done deal yet, but I think they do what they have to.

Wrong. It implies that the rest of the worthwhile available FA DEs (outside of Bennett) are old and will command more than they will produce.

No reason? Not at all. I was offended by his second line. Overpay for a player past his prime? Who said we will? I'm defending our new GM, our team. I'm just as upset as anyone that we won't have a shot at Hardy. But why take a shot at our team? And before you say ''I wasn't taking a shot at our team,'' reread the statement. Whether he realizes it or not, he was. Root for the doggone team!  Support the team. Don't rip them before the move even exists. Sheesh.

All of them? So we have no chance and whatever we do is wrong? Good grief.
