Here’s the deal folks. Dirk Koetter could care LESS what message board posters and so called “experts” think about him giving up calling plays, his first love. And he’s not going to do it no matter how much bitching ensues because of that fact.

Why should he? He HAS a top ten offense NOW and adding a competent running back or two along with some OL depth and perhaps another starter at G and guess what? Suddenly the Bucs ARE scoring TD’s in the Red Zone and Coach Koetter is appreciated.

I keep typing it and WILL keep typing it….. It’s the PLAYERS stupid! Dirk Koetter and Mike Smith were NOT the problems this season just as hiring Jon Gruden for Fort Knox and part ownership NOT the “solution.” The freaking PROBLEM was rather simple. The Buccaneers relied on Doug Martin at running back, Doug Martin whose last 100 yard running day was over TWO YEARS AGO. And even more of a PROBLEM was the Buccaneers relying on two injury prone DE’s in Noah Spence and Jack Smith to provide edge rushing. Nether was on the team by week three and provided 0, ZERO, absolutely NO sacks.

I really don’t know why it’s so hard to see this. The Buccaneers need help at multiple positions. They need at least two DE’s, probably two CB’s, a starting G, OL depth and probably two RB’s including a game changing starter. That’s a lot to order with one draft and it may very well take at least two.

I know PR has it in for Koetter and Smith, many fans do as well. But I really believe neither had the horses to get it done this season, especially when you add the large amount of injuries to the equation. Here’s to an amazing offseason as far as personnel is concerned. The Bucs are going to need it. And if the Bucs can win 8-9 games next season somehow I'll be satisfied with Coach and his staff staying another year too. And calling their own plays on offense and defense!
