If this is about cap space, we are about 10M under next years cap and can roll over another 7M from this year giving us about 17M. If we part ways with Joseph, Penn and Nicks, I think that amounts to about $20M more as well (although I don't think we'll do that - total $37M). The short answer to this is that we don't *have* to trade anyone and I doubt that we will trade the few offensive playmakers we have to some draft choices that would be less likely to play as well as the players we traded. While I do think we are likely to part ways with Nicks unless he shows that he can get healthy for next season, I think we will probably keep everyone else (although Penn and Joseph could be asked to take pay cuts). Whoever the next coach is, he'll be wanting to make a quick turn around and he's going to not only want good veteran players, he's going to want more of them.JMO.
You're only $5 million out on that.People keep forgetting Dom reworked Nicks contract and he's still owed $7.071 million in bonus money if we let him go in the off season.Davin would free up $6 million.Penn would free up $7.067 million.Nicks would free up $2.286 millionZuttah is one to watch as there is no hit if we release him and he's not worth the $4 million he's due next year.Koenen frees up $3.25 million and for a punter with his production that's insane.I could see them getting McCoys number down too by extending his deal.
I think Goldson and Nicks are locks to stay because of their contracts. Joseph, Revis, Zuttah, Koenen, and Penn are not.McCoy needs a new deal, preferably before Suh gets one.
It's rare that you see teams’ trade impact players or players with large contracts in the NFL. Yes, it does happen from time to time, but regarding the below list, I believe the following will take place:Carl Nicks: Depending on what the doctors say, I think Nicks will be back with the Bucs in 2014, and hopefully healthy enough to make a lasting impact on the field. If he isn't on the Bucs in 2014, he'll likely be forced to retire due to the nature of his toe injury. I'm pulling for Nicks to make it back.Davin Joseph: If he doesn't restructure his contract, he's gone. Even though Joseph was coming off an injury this season, he's an aging player who has noticeably declined this season and is making too much money. My guess is that he'll be released. Donald Penn: Perhaps a restructure in his contract, but if not, Penn might be the most likely guy on this list to be traded as he still has the talent and ability to be an impact player on the football field. If he's traded, it won't be for anything higher than a 4th round pick, likely 5th round pick unfortunately, imo.Darrelle Revis: The Bucs continue to possess the cap space to keep Revis and his series of one year 16 million dollar deals. It would be silly to trade him as he was one of the better CBs in the entire league while working his way back from injury. Remember, the Bucs surrendered a 1st round pick for Revis and will also lose their 3rd round pick if he's still on the roster in 2014, so it makes sense to bring back a hopefully 100% healthy Revis to see what he can do to help the team. Without Revis, the current secondary would be amongst the very worst in the entire NFL.Dashon Goldson: I'd say he's back for another go around as well, although if he is unable to stop being fined and/or suspended, 2014 will mark his last year as a Buc. It's a shame about Goldson, who arrived in the NFL ten years too late. I love his hustle and hope he can modify his approach to the game on the field, but he should get at least one more chance with the Bucs in 2014.Vincent Jackson: Far and away the best receiver on the Bucs and one of the few legit weapons on offense. His production was consistent and even with his contract being what it is; I see no reason why Jackson doesn't return in 2014 to post similar numbers, although I hope he can finally break a long one to the end zone at some point.Mike Williams: He should be ready to go in 2014 and will return to the Bucs as a productive player. WIlliams is a good number two option who hopefully is injury free in 2014.Doug Martin: He isn't going anywhere and should be 100% for the start of the season. I do think he will share some carries with Mike James and Bobby Rainey, but Martin will still be the clear cut number one, he just won't be run into the ground in 2014 (and hopefully isn't being sent on any deep routes for badly thrown passes).
Carl Nicks - how long is the line to trade for a bloated contract on a guy who might not be able to play again?Davin Joseph - nobody is trading for himDonald Penn - maybe a 6th if we are luckyDarrelle Revis - GTFOH with thisDashon Goldson - if we ate a lot of his contract we could probably get a 2nd/3rd, not worth itVincent Jackson - could probably get a 2nd, but his value to a young QB outweighs that draft pickMike Williams - I dont see anyone lining up to trade for a WR coming off injuryDoug Martin - has some trade value, but would be a poor PR move for the fan base
Wow, overreaction. While I think he is a supreme talent, the Bucs trading away Revis is not as far fetched as some of you might think. I could be wrong, lets say the Bucs hire a GM that sees Revis' mega-contract as a negative influence on the future of the franchise? What if the new GM is aiming to stockpile draft picks and build for the future? What if he has an opportunity to trade Revis for a young, franchise QB? All hypotheticals but very reasonable scenarios.
It is COMPLETELY far fetched. Even if the new GM doesnt like Revis, you have to find a trade partner willing to take on a $16 million dollar contract for a CB. How long of a line do you think that is? What team is going to trade a young franchise QB for a CB, even if a pro bowler? I don't understand how you consider any trade of Revis as a "reasonable scenario".
Every player on every team is available for the right price. That said it really depends on what we do in free agency and the draft. Nicks' contract is huge and guaranteed so there is no way out of that one unless he retires. Same with Goldson, but I think he is worth keeping. We really need to keep VJax, Williams, and Martin for the sake of our QB next year (whoever that will be). Joseph I could see be asked to take a paycut or a payless cut and picking up another guard or 2 but if Nicks can't play they may keep him as the group veteran. Penn isn't amazing, but you can't get rid of a decent LT unless you have a replacement. Revis has a big cap number but it isn't really hurting us. If we cut him we get our 3rd back but still lose our 4th.
I could see something with Williams depending on the offensive philosophy. But it would be hard to get good value for him coming off injury.
IMO, i would like to keep Revis but only if the next coach use him like you should use Revis Island!say we sign Lovie Smith and we get back to Cover 2, this is not good value to have a $16M per year shutdown CB, no matter how much you like Revis this is not good value!
i would trade all those guys, including revis if we hire lovie. we could do wonders to rework our team with 3 more 2nds, a 3rd, a couple 4ths...and possibly a bit more if someone wants revis.

Lovie does not run straight Tampa 2 coverage all the time, in fact towards the end of his tenure in Chicago he ran a lot of man coverage. I'm positive if Lovie is hired that he would find a way to use him instead of being stubborn like Schiano.
Yeah the worst offense in the NFL needs to trade away their best players

i don't care if he doesn't run zone coverage all the time, 20%, 30% or 40% of the time... at $16M per year(QB money) i want Revis on an island 90% of the time!
